Just something that I was thinking about tonight. There is so many things that we get told as new mums or mums to be. Some are fact, some are wives tales. But the most of the time I find them to be a bit off the mark.

Like -
I was told that because I was having lots of heartburn that my bub would have lots of hair. Hummm....... she was practically bald. Guess it was her breech head stuck in my stomach.

But what I was mainly thinking tonight was that they say that babies grow when they are sleeping. Fair enough...... I'm sure they do. But does that mean that good sleepers grow more or put on more weight? and that bad sleepers will stay tiny babies forever? I don't believe this at all. My friend had an awful sleeper and he is massive. I guess it comes down to the whole ALL BABIES ARE DIFFERENT thing. I wish people could understand that my child or anyone else's child is not the same as there baby was 35 years ago, haha.

Hummm... seems me just posting random thoughts turned into a rant. Apologies to all.

What have you been told during pregnancy or mummyhood that is nonsense?

My witch of a MIL yelled at DH for standing our son on his feet all the way up untill he stood himself bc he will get... wait for it...

BRAIN DAMAGE

So of course every time I had him I stood him on his feet in front of her bc she wouldn't say anything to me bc I would have a go back at her. Before we had our son I was holding SIL son who is 6 months older than our son and she told me I just glared at her and ignored her and SIL told her he is fine. Thats just one of the many queer things she comes up with but definately the best.

I hear often women saying that the y"need" to let the babies father feed them atleast one feed a day or else the baby and father wont bond.
Its such a load of codswhallop. My DH hasnt fed his kids any bottles and the looks on their faces and the fact they are chomping at the bit to get to him as soon as he is home from work is proof enough to me that him not feeding them has damaged their ability to bond.

my MIL told me that smoking when pregnant doesnt make your baby small or put it at risk of being born prematurely, she "knows" this because she had 6 kids, smoked through all the pregnancies and they all turned out healthy. I might add that my DP is actually quite short, one of his sisters has asthma, which they say cn be a result of the mum smoking during preg, and two of her babies were born 4 weeks early!
But nope, not smoking related at all!
She says its all a big lie:no:

My partners nanna offered me a glass of wine while I was pregnant and I said I couldn't. She then told me that it is fine to drink as she did through all her pregnancies. I just said "I choose not to" Didn't want to be rude. I also never drink anyways. Pregnant or not.

I told my partner about our conversation and he said "I guess she didn't tell you about the 4 miscarriages she had between her 2 girls. Ah how times have changed and how much better the information we are given is (well in most cases).

I got the "you're going to have small babies" one because supposedly for twins I wasn't very big at all. 5lb 12oz and 7lb 3oz later, who was the one left laughing?

its ok to smoke when pregnant cause i did with my daughter and she is really healthy besides severe kidney problems.
Put metho on your nipples to toughen them up...never did anything and never ever hurt once.
Babies need to cry it out cause its good practise for there vocals

I was told that breast feeding is more painful than labour.

I was told if the baby looks like mum and dad equally it means your really in love :valentine:

If you crave sweet its a girl, if you crave savoury its a boy.

Oh, and a whole bunch of random stupid things from my MIL and FIL from taking my asthma medication while I was pregnant aparently is no good for the baby (errr, neither is me dying or needing steriods to start breathing) bubba needed farax in his bottle (what bottle?) to make him put on weight (he's in the 97 percentile for weight and height... what more did they want?) to standing him on his feet before he could walk could break his legs and when I was pregnany I wasn't allowed to talk on the mobile phone because it would give bubba a brain tumour... but my MIL would call me on the mobile and then tell me off for answering....:laughing:

Ahhhh! The insanity!!!!!

My naturopath commented when we were talking about things to take to aid labour he was like 'not that you were ever going to have a problem with labour' I'm like "what? why?" and he's like "have you ever seen yourself from behind?"

(my mum was there and quietly laughed and when we got out she had to explain he was commenting on my very womanly curves and wide hips )

BTW - 48 hour labour ended with a c-section... aparently no matter how wide your hips are, doesn't help with a breech baby.

I was told breech babies are very intelligent :) Yet to find out if that's true or not.. But I think it's because breech babies know how to stay closer to mamma's heart :valentine:
