***thread updated at #7 another question***
Ok another warning about the TMI, so i'm sorry!!!
I gave birth a week ago and I feel like crap, I had stitches a fair few and although bleeding has stopped I now have a weird (foul) smell down there. I shower every morning and I have a salt bath in the afternoons just to freshen up but always after a while the smell returns. Also I'm not a head ache person but have had a head ache from around 4 days since the birth.
Is this normal or should I be see my OB...
Sorry again about the TMI

I would get it checked out ASAP, sounds like an infection of some sort. I never had it from natural birth but had similar with my last bub who was C/S i had a terrible infection and it smelt yukko too.
Even a GP, so you could get seen to quickly.

I think you should see your doctor, I think a foul odour is a symptom of an infection from left over placenta etc.

Yep, I'm with the others. If your discharge smells offensive, it's likely that you've got a uterine infection. This isn't terribly serious if it's treated appropriately, so try not to stress - but do see your Ob or even a GP ASAP (ie don't wait until Monday. If you need to, go back to the mat ward you gave birth at).
Hope you're feeling better soon :hugs:
What about calling the mat ward for advice?

So a bit of an update, I went to my OB today and she had a look around. My stitches looked fine a bit irritated but fine and although when she did a swab there was a cloudy discharge she thinks everything is fine.
She prescribed Keflex as a precaution, but as I'm breastfeeding she suggested that I wait a few days to see if I feel better, with out the keflex. If not, then take it.
The thing that I have now that is a little strange is that after leaving my OB i'm now bleeding again. I stpped bleeding 4 days after the birth and have not bleed for over a week.
I feel very heavy internally like I get some times with AF...
I called my OB's pager but she hasn't gotten back to me... should I be worried?

If you had an internal today then that might have stirred some things up, like when you have sex just after your period finishes and you get a small amount of bleeding again.
Im not sure how Keflex interacts with Breastfeeding but its probably best to call your state maternity hospital or the Australian Breastfeeding Association (1800 MUM 2 MUM) should be able to give you the number to call to ask how it will effect your milk supply, they may even offer an alternative.
Do you have a temp? or are you taking panadol so you cant tell?

I'm taking panadol every four-five hours as I've headaches since the Sunday that I stopped bleeding. I had a temp when I went to my OB today so she gave me more panadol.

I would suggest taking the Keflex after calling to check if its contraindicated.

Sometimes you think the bleeding has stopped then it rears it's ugly head a few days later again. Could of been the internal too.
Also TMI but with both kiddies when the bleeding stopped and it was just more of a discoloured discharge it was a bit smelly - think cos it was the last of the gunk coming out. Completely normal I was told.
I also had headaches for about a week too.....think it was just from the blood loss etc. Got better at about week 3. Drink plenty of water.
Weird I never got the headaches with DS, just DD.
I remember a midwife telling me that the bleeding can stop for a few days then come back so that may not be a problem. Only 4 days of bleeding is pretty unusual - most women bleed for considerably longer than that.
I also remember things smelling different during that bleed. Not really nasty but not nice either. I did not have an infection. I did have stitches so maybe they can smell a bit.... not sure.

I'll call my OB on thursday and I hope that everything is ok, I'm sure it is.
My headache is really frustrating me, I'll see my osteopath tomorrow. SO i'm hoping that she can ease my headaches.
