i work in a before/after school care and normally in the morning after an hour or so of free play (craft, lego, puzzles, board games, cards, dressups etc) before the kids go to school at 8.20 we play a group game:yes:

normally in the morning theres about 10 or so kids so not too many and they range from prep-grade 6 but mostly in the prep-year 4 range:)

looking for some more ideas of games that we can play with this age of children and how many there are, also something that doesn't take FOREVER to play.

ones we regularly play are freeze and bop (like musical statues), heads down thumbs up, wink murder, that game where you roll a dice and they have to go to a certain corner.

any more ideas:yes:

the number game - dance or move to music when the music stops you call out a number and they get into groups of that # then leftovers get out..it is quite fast!

Another number game - in groups have to make the shape of a number

oldie but goodie - duck duck goose

musical chairs

sleeping bears - where they lay still in a position

indians and teepees - in pairs one stands legs apart as teepee and the other is crouched underneath you call one and they run around the circle back to their spot the last is out

streets and lanes - all students stand in rows, pick 2 kids one to be chased and the other the chaser, when you say streets the other kids put arms long ways to make streeets when you say lanes the turn arms the other way the chaser and chaser cant run through blocked arms and arms up is highway they can run anywhere

Follow the leader

sound game - one child goes out, everyone is sitting in a circle, choose one to be in charge of changing the sound pattern, the person comes in and gets three guesses to figure out who is doing the pattern...for example clapping, clicking, patting, etc...

train game - similar but circle hold hands and someone starts the squeeze and someone firgures out who has the squeeze can have train stations that say toot toot and can change the direction

there is just some...hth:)
