As I put in my previous thread I am looking into mcn for when I have #1 (still ttc - :fingerscrossed:) and I am thinking that I may go for OSFA/M, but I have seen some reviews of good nappies, but not so good for newborns. So I had a thought I may look into flats/prefolds for newborn then move into the OSFA.

I know that all babies are different but when they are newborn, with the constant feeding, how much do they wee and poo? Would bamboo/hemp be required or would cotton be sufficient for absorbancy? Also I have read a few people's posts about the flats giving baby nappy rash because of the lack of liner to keep moisture away. Are there prefolds available that have liners in them?

I hope all that made sense!

thanks :)

newborns usually need changing due to wee and poo at every feed and sometimes in beween for poos . So that makes about 8-10 changes per day . You cant get prefolds with liners but you can just buy some micro fleece from spotlight and cut it into rectangular liners and put that between the prefold and baby - very cheap and works well .
I'm not sure about cotton v's bamboo as we only use bamboo prefolds here - hopefully someone else can help you with that one .

Prefolds are a good idea for newborns. I'd personally use bamboo - only because I think they'd be more useful in the long run... ie. once your not using them for prefolds you can then use them later on to boost nappies

Bamboo is heaps more absorbent then cotton. Although you could use cotton in the newborn stage I would imagine with a good cover.
