Just Add Water

Has anyone heard of this or is anyone doing it? DH heard them on the radio this morning and we're considering getting it set up. You pay a certain amount and you have a six week trial. You get a pen and 2 chooks... and eggs straight to your table.

I am curious about others' experiences in general with chooks too, are they much work? I think our kids would absolutely love it.

I don't know where you live but chooks are about $15 each, and you can buy fencing for $30 for 10 metres. They are extremely low maintenance.

Your title made me laugh...only because the first I heard of this was on Hamish and Andy's radio show on 2dayFM and they did a prank on the place that does it....was very funny *sigh* :o

I agree that it would be cheaper to buy them and make a pen yourself :)

Chooks are fantastic. Our girls lay beautiful eggs with bright orange yolks. They taste fantastic. We have rhode island reds. We also grow our veges and they eat most of our scraps and we give them grain too. Ds loves our girls. well worth it :D id set it up yourself but, its not that expensive. They are very low maintenance

We have four Australorps, they are black. Don't get White Leghorns they are flighty and can be aggressive. Also, don't keep a chicken on it's own (ie have 2 or more)

Rentachook is a good way of getting a feel for keeping chickens but is expensive...is cheaper to set it up yourself but take it from someone who just lost her fav chook to a fox....the coop MUST be sound and foxproof. Just a wire yard will not do
