just curious, my DS is 6 months and had tryed most things now, is it safe to puree anything we have for tea?

also with potato mash, does it NEED to be formula milk? or is cows milk ok for cooking? also im making chicken fetticine for tea, it has cream in it so would that be safe? (i would think not, but any opinions would be great)

Even if bubs has tried most foods, at that age I'd still be just offering pureed veges, fruits and plain meat... not stuff cooked with added fat, salt, spices, sauces etc. The main concern with milk is that it's not OK as their normal food until 12 months. If you are adding some to your mashed spuds it should be OK (unless of course your little one has an intolerance/sensitivity/allergy to dairy or milk protein etc). If you're also adding butter to your spuds, then I'd probably not give it to bubs.

I'm sure you'll get other responses here that say it's OK... it's really down to what YOU feel is OK. Your child health book (or whatever they're called) has some basic info on what foods are suitable at what ages, so if ever you're unsure then that's a good place to start looking for answers.

I dont think its a good idea.

For me, the main reason I wouldn't is because of all the extras in our foods like fat and salt and additives. They dont need it. At 6 months they really just need plain fruits and veg.

I did from about 7 or 8 months, but we eat very plain stuff, no salt and stuff.

I think the recommendation is hold off dairy until at least 9 months.

I make bubba seperate food, but the same, if I want to give him what we're having for dinner. Like if I make spag bol I seperate out ours and add the salt, peper, herbs, sateed onion and just give bubba mince, tomatos and pasta.

Little babies really should only be having pure fruits and veg. Which is easy as to make, I make big batches of sweet potato and add all the vegies in my fridge that are running out of time to be used, and then do a big patch and apples or pears (whichever is cheapest when I go shopping) and throw in whatever fruit needs to be used.

And I personally think the longer you delay adding things into their diet, the longer they'll eat their fruit and vegies, because until you offer them other things they dont even know they exist!!!!

And by 12 months you can more or less give bub whatever your eating, but still avoid fats sugars and salts as they dont need these (and spicy foods, but some kiddies do like them and they dont hurt their tums)

Why no Butter?

Why no Butter?

Cause butter is basically fat and salt, and babies don't need either (plus they don't have adult tastebuds and experiences with food so won't find pure potato bland like we would).

I know babies don't need salt. But I have all ways been told to use Butter and full cream milk as they need the calories. That they get there calories from fat. That it's essential for babies brain development. The brain is made up of at least 60% Fat after all. I have all ways given full fat stuff till the age of 2 years old.

butter isn't made of nutritionally beneficial fat though

i have always been told never to add it

they dont need it for calories, as their first 9 months at least should be mostly made up from milk.

re full fat - yes, under 2 full fat, but this is a 6 month old, those guidlines are set out for 9months (some 12 months!) to 2 years.

The difference for me is that full fat milk, for example, is around 3.5% - 4% fat. Butter, is 50% fat.

It's just personal choice for me, to not want to clog my babies arteries up with saturated fats. High cholesterol runs in my family, and none of us are overweight or have unhealthy diets, so sat fats are on the "must avoid whenever possible" list. Therefore I can choose to make responsible and healthy food choices for my children until they are old enough to make their own.

I generally follow these guidelines (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fat/NU00262) when it comes to choosing what fats I add to my diet or that of my children.

i did BLW with both of mine and after the initial testing of new foods to check for allergies both of mine started to eat just what ever we had for dinner mashed or roughly blended from 6-8 months
so DD now 3 at Ds 11 months eat every thing from spicy curries to plain old shepherds pie
my theory on the matter is that if i was living in Asia they would eat Asian, if i lived in India they would eat Indian
