View Full Version : 50's themed Hen's Night
 As the title suggests Im off to a hens night in a couple of weeks and the theme is the 1950's housewife but I have no idea what to wear:rolleyes: I am not a fan these days of theme parties I just dont have time or energy to bother... i know the option is going op shopping but hard with a toddler, would they even have anything of that era anyway?
Any help/ suggestions is greatly appreciated...

What a cute idea for a hens night!!
I would think that any look similar to the classic TV shows "I love Lucy" or "Bewitched" (may be a bit before your time) would be good - think the following..
- Knee-length dress with a either a flared or straight skirt (polka dots a bonus!)
- Cinched in at the waist with a belt.
- Cover this with a frilly white apron. (Can be just a skirt apron, does not need to be the full one. You could probably just make one of these with some white fabric and frilly lace from spotlight or lindcraft. Tied around your waist with white ribbon.
- Put curlers in your hair or tie up in a scarf (or both!)
- Mary Jane shoes and panty-hose
- Huge Fake pearls (earrings and necklace)
- Props to carry - Feather duster, wooden spoon, plastic baby doll
Oh yes, and make sure you STUFF YOUR BRA and make them nice and pointy!!:laughing: for some reason the 50's housewives seem to have big pointy boobs and tiny waists!!!
Op shopping is a good way to go - you don't need to get actual clothes from that era, but as long as the style is correct and you stick with the above you should be ok.
Let us know how you go - should be good fun!!!

Meggie yeah it is a cute idea the invite has 2 housewives on the front should be interesting pity it is at a restaurant in public i have to wear it
I had 1950's housewife for my hens party earlier this year! So much fun. Basically any flared skirts/floral dresses with an pretty frilly apron wrapped around the front and then lots of pearls like the other user said! I raided my mums old clip on earrings to lol was so great and even better when everyone gets dressed up like we did. Don't worry about it being at a restaurant, i had to wear a 80's bmaids dress to a tavern on a saturaday night for another friends party! Won't matter if there is a group of you. Have a great time!
