Hello all,

I am at a complete loss at what to do with my almost 7 month old son. NOTHING i try to do to entertain him seems to work. He is a little fussy atm due to teething, but even before that I stuggle.

I do put it down to the fact I am currently without a car, the nearest shopping centre and public transport is 10k away so we are stuck in a little unit most of the day. I take him for many walks during the day, but even that seems to be getting boring for him. The only thing that seems to keep him happy is tv-and i do NOT want to put him infront of the tv all day.

I have Tried:
Putting him in front of mirror
Blowing bubbles
Banging on pots and pans
Jolly Jumper(which he LOVES)
Tickles
Peek-a-boo
Bathtime-more than once a day cos it seems to occupy him
Play with all his toys
Teaching to crawl, sit etc.
General play time with me
Kiddy games on computer designed for babies his age
And many more little thing's like that..

Some work, but no longer than1min usually. We are currently in the process of moving so once we do, I will join a mother's group which I am sure will do us both good.

Until such a time, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can occupy him?? He is just SO bored all day and I hate how much wants to watch tv-I rarely sat him in front but he just wants it on always. He looks at it, points and cries when I have it turned off!!

ANY help/thoughts/suggestions would be so very much appreciated.

TIA.

Put some music on and dance together ( we do this the neigbours/passers by must think i am crazy but bub loves it)

Make play doh

Bake and let bub touch stuff

Pop bub in the highchair with some crayons and paper

Go for a walk and point out stuff (birds, flowers, houses)

Put high chair outside and fill tray with water to splash ( if weather is warm, also i use to use the walker to do the same thing)

Use an empty tissue box and put things in like scarves, spoons, little toys, babies love pulling things out of things :p

Look at books

It's fairly normal for them to have short attention spans at that age. And my DD was fascinated with the TV too, still is .

Excellent idea for keeping them happy. I stuck in a few decks of playing cards.

Interactive toys with lots of buttons, lights and sounds might keep them interested longer. If you've been leaving all the toys out then try rotating them, only bringing out a few at a time. A toy might be more interesting if it isn't always available.

My DD started getting interested in books at around that age. There are some good baby ones, with lots of tactile "stuff" stuck to pages for them to explore. Or just pulling them off shelves fills up a few minutes at least!

Babies have very short attention spans, so maybe it does entertain him but doesn't keep him entertained iykwim!

At that age my ds was 'out of it', so I can't really help sorry.

I find at that age they love a change in scenery. I take bub to each room with me as I do stuff around the house, and she actually doesn't paly with actual toys all that much. I give her the peg basket if I'm doing washing, I might give her a couple of pairs of sox or a pillowcase while I make our bed, in the bathroom she is fascinated by the tag on the bath mat, and when I prepare dinner I open up the plastics cupboard for her. They are basic things, but they are things she doesn't see all day long and not always everyday. When i do give her toys, I just pick afew each time adn vary what I give her each time. I agree with others too.....board books are great!
