My 2 year old sleeps 18 hr periods most days.

Last night she went to bed at 8.30pm and she has only just got up now at 2.30pm. It's a regular thing for her. Do you think there is something wrong with her? She will be in bed again tonight by 8.30 and sleep all night again.
Any ideas??:sleeping::sleeping::sleeping:

Are you sure she isnt Benjamin Buttons sister and living the Teen years now?

Sorry I have no clue, what I would give for Ds to sleep past six.

Wow thats alot of sleep, have you ever mentioned it to your doctor?? I guess my concern would be that she is only awake for 6 hours and may not be getting 3 meals in. Have u ever woken her up instead of let her sleep. DD and I have slept for 13 hours (im pregnant) but thats been the most. Sorry im not much of a help but i would perhaps mention it to your doctor just to check it out.

...8.30 till 2.30?? Hmm that doesn't sound right at all.. ask a doctor. Have you tired just waking her up in the morning and keeping her up?

That seems like an awful lot of sleep to me. I have an almost 2 year old and he would never sleep that long... I would take her to the GP and definately get it checked out.

wow.
That's a lot of sleep in one hit.
What's her diet like? Her activities when she's awake - what does she like to do?

The only guide I could find on my favorite kids health website was this:

Recommended hours of sleep per day for children have remained constant over the past few decades, beginning with about 15 hours of sleep for infants, gradually reducing to 13 hours by two years of age, 12 hours by three years of age, and coming down slowly to 10 hours by 10 years of age.

Even before checking that I thought 18 hours was unusual unless they are recovering from being sick. If your GP brushes off your concerns you could ask a CHN or get a 2nd GP.

hi, any chance your two year old has koala in the family history. ??? I think it is very out of the ordinary for anyone to sleep that long. There could be absolutely nothing wrong, but I would mention it to your doctor when you next visit. Marie.

That sounds like way too much sleep. I wonder if 2 year olds can suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome?

woah,Thats an awfully long time for anyone to sleep (besides newborns),not just a 2 year old.

A trip to the GP just to make sure all is well might be an idea :)

When she is awake she likes to play outside, on a Monday morn we go to playgroup, i have to wake her up. On a tuesday morn i go to cooking classes i then again have to wake her up. We have playgroup wednesay morns but she missed it today because she was asleep allllll day. I feel like I dont get to see her much and also feel sorry for her because she is always in bed! If I wake her up she has a 3 hour day nap and then goes to bed early. Thanks everyone for your advice Ill get some professional advice.
