View Full Version : 24 hr routine
Just after some advice on what your routine is.
I have a 7 month old, and just having a bit of trouble establishing a set routine for sleeps, during the day, she will only stay awake for 2 hrs at a time then sleep for no longer than an hour, therefor is having about 4 sleeps a day. She has 3 solid feeds and 4 bf a day, doesn't eat during the night but can wake up generally about 4 times a night, just for her dummy.
Any advice would be appreciated:yes:

Hi Mel,
My bubs does the same. I have noticed that a lot of bubs from about ages of 7mnths and up have gone through a similar faze.
I was told he was waking during the night cause of hungar - this is slowly improving.

I am sure you are not thrilled about the night time wakings, (the dude has only just now stared sleeping kind of through at 11 months) but are you unhappy with the day time naps? Is bubs cheery throughout the day?
I'm not too worried about the night waking as i just have to give her her dummy and she's straight back to sleep. but during the day she is happy untill she's been awake for 2 hrs thens she's a grot:mad: my main prob is that by the time she has all her sleeps and feeds, there isn't much time left to do anything else (ie go to the shops), i just don't know how to get her to sleep for longer during the day so she wouldn't get so tired again so quickly:sleeping:

Alot of babies have an average wake time of about 2 hours. My 10 mnth old did the same thing and its only in about the last 2 months he has started to stay awake for longer during the day. Though he still only sleeps for about an hour mind you:banghead: . I think that she will get better as she gets older... or at least i have found that. My son also wakes about 3-4 times a nigt and has a quick feed then goes back to sleep. drives me crazy because he used to sleep through untill he got the flu and got sick. Now all i have to do is work out how to get him to sleep through again

Ahh I see. How long does she sleep for during her day naps?
The dude has two big sleeps during the day, one at 9-11am, the other from 2-3pm. So he is not up for much more than 3 hours at a time. But if I need to do something at those times, I do it, and he has a little power nap in the car. Then he makes up the extra sleep at the other nap, or goes to bed a little earlier.
as far as i can remember our routine at 7mths was something like this (ala gina ford i might add)
7am - wake up
breakfast - milk/solids
9am - sleep till about 10.30 (as long as we could get if it got to 10.30 we would wake him up)
11am - milk feed
12pm - solids
12.30pm - sleep for 2hours (or again as long as we could get)
2.30pm - milk feed
4pm - short nap (in the pram or cot depending on what we were up to) but no longer than half an hour - he later stopped wanting this sleep about 9-10mths
5pm - solids
6.30pm - bathtime
7pm - milk feed and bed

Hi there
my ds is nearly 6mths old - so a little younger than yours. Oliver was doing the same thing during the day as your little oneup until about a month ago. I found that he was still cranky after being asleep for 40-50 mins. He always wakes up happy and i ws going in when i heard him talking, but after about 10 mins he is tired and cranky again. I know just let him have his talk in his cot and when he starts to grizzle go in and put the dummy in. This means that now he is having 2 2-3 hr sleeps a day:smiliedance: instead of 4 40 min sleeps. His routine is like this.
Wakes 7am bottle breakfast
Bed 10am
Wake 12.30pm ish bottle lunch
back to bed at 2.00pm
wake 4.30 ish bottle
dinner 5pm
bath and time with Daddy
Bed at 7.00 bottle
Wake 11pm bottle in cot
Generally this is his 24hr day- sometimes he might wake for a bottle about 3am.
I found that he is much happier with the longer day sleeps - he sleeps alot compared to other babies, but when he is awake he is full on and so active so figure he just tires himself out:D

At 7 months there wake time should be roughly about 2 hrs ( including feed time).
My DS is 9 months now and his wake times are only 2.5 hrs.
My routine suggestions would be similair to what others have posted.
7am- wake bottle and solids
9am- bed ( sleep for at least 1 hr to 1.5 hrs)
10.30- 12.30-wake time- and feed time wherever u have it
12.30- bed ( sleep for at least 1 hr to 1.5 hrs).
1-3- wake time ( This is usually the age that they start to drop their afternoon sleep...so some afternoons she may want the 45 cat nap and other afternoons she wont be interested).
3- cat nap
4-7 wake time ( bottle and solids when u have it and bed time routine so she's in bed by 7).
When they drop their afternoon sleep all together, then you could probably start stretching her wake times during the day by about 10 minutes. I did this with DS at about 7 months. So that by 9months his routine is this:
7am- bottle & solids
8- 9.30- wake time
9.30- 11- bed
11-2 wake time. ( 12pm lunch)
2- 3.30 ( roughly- sometimes it's earlier than 2) and if he sleeps more than the 1.5 hrs i never wake him.
3.30- afternoon tea
3.30-6 wake time.
6- bed time routine- solids-bath-bottle-story-bed.
7- in bed.
Hope that helps.
