I live opposite a school, have a large house and yard and am always home before and after school.

I have never had to utilise after school care, so am not sure what I would need to do/facilities I would need/food etc to provide/hours of care.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding this out? I am needing to look at another way to get a bit more money in and as I have an almost ideal rental with our landlords blessing to convert it if we want, I thought this could be a good use for it.

Maybe I could advertise it as a service whereby I can take in kids before school (do this occasionally with some of my shiftworker friends kids) and then walk them across in the morning? As well as after school?

Thanks for any suggestions you can come up with!

I think you would need to be looking at "Family Daycare" here not - vacation care....
that seems to suit what you are looking at doing - therefore contact the local family daycare in your local area and ask about being a family daycare operator.

After School Care/Vacation Care is usually provided by a Provider linked to the School itself..and offered on the premesis of the school. not by someone outside it.
(thats based on what I know as a parent using vacation/after school care for my child in my area - doesnt mean its correct for all children/areas)

^ Yes you need to contact whoever is running the Family Daycare scheme in your area.
My MIL does FDC and for quite a while she used to have school aged kids before and after school, as well as her babies and toddlers during the day.
I think there is usually quite a bit of demand for this sort of care, and your certainly in an ideal position being across the road from the school. You should definitely go for it! Good luck.

Yep, what they said  I'm a Day Care mum and also cater for BAS care Before and After School Care, for our local school up the road. You will need full public liability insurance. If there is a good demand for BAS care only it would be a great idea. Contact your local FDC office.
