Hi,

Bubs is 8 days old, and we are having trouble with his poos and sleeping. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what did you do about it??

His poos are coming out bright yellow with an army green tinge to it, he is jaundiced so that explains the bright yellow, and I know army green is quite normal too, I think anyway, it's been awhile, but it looks curdled, imagine soggy oates or something similar, is that normal to anyone? Seems odd to me and I don't recall seeing that with DS2 and he's definately Lactose Intolerant, but we also didn't know that til he was 8 months old, so the early stages are an actual blur to me.

Also in the early stages did you find that night times are harder to get them to sleep than daytime? He sleeps like an angel thru the day, wakes up for feeds every 3-4 hours. But nightime we are pulling our hair out already. DH and I have not slept in the same bed for more than an hour at a time in the last week!! One of us is in bed the other on the couch because DS3 won't sleep in our room!! We put him in his bassinet and within 5 mins he's screaming bloody murder. In the lounge, in the same bassinet, he sleeps!! Meanwhile we're breaking our backs on the couch which is killing my 6'4" DH.

We don't know what's causing him to be that way. It could be the hum of the heater/fridge/fish tank, it could be the fact it's warm in the lounge and our room isn't coz the stupid column heater we bought won't work. Or it could be L.I., as that's when he seems to poo more, at night. Or is it just too quiet?? I know with DS2 we were zombies after 8 months of sleepless nights.

Any opinions, advice would be greatly appreciated right now. I'm so tired, I'm thinking of buying LF formula tomorrow. Help!!!!:o

TIA

He is 8 days old hun :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Sleep is going to be screwed for some time yet but try to keep him in the light/ sun when he is awake through the day & keep things dark of a nite so that he slowly changes his internal clock. Remember he has been inside for 9mths now ;)

As for LI ....

This is a very rare occurance & actually means a baby would be very very ill sadly this tends to be what doctors especially g.p's diagnose babies as having when its usually a Lactose Overload ...

When a baby is so young they are taking in so much milk it gets a bit much for their systems & it sees them unable to cope with it as easily as an adult. Especially when their bowel is so bound up in a tiny body its hard for them in turn to move it through their system properly which then causes pain etc.

The poo sounds all very normal ... If it were mucousy, bloody or rock hard pellets then there would be cause for concern but yellow &/ or green or anything inbetween are all normal & especially so for a baby who is only days old.

I certainly wouldnt be changing formulas at this point because Lactose is actually needed for healthy development as its a sugar which is found in all mammalian milk.

I know you are worried about going down the same path as your other baby but really it is only early days & everything you have spoken of basically points to bubs just being 8 days old & nothing more worriesome.

Thanks,

It didn't seem to me to be LI, it was just his poos were weird. I know with DS2 he was pretty much upset allllllll day but just worse at night. But yeah, I've never seen poos like that!!:o

But it's the not settling in our room that's killing us:(. He just won't sleep in there. And we have to work out what it is otherwise we're going to go troppo. I'm already fed up:hair:. I was a chronic fatigue sufferer, and you never get better from that, late nights like tonight kill me, I feel sick typing this, and I will go in a minute, as he is finally asleep and not screaming, but I just don't get it. I neeeeeeeed my bed!!!!

Thanks anyway.

with the sleeping thing, i would try and put the bassinett in your room during the day so he can used to the smells and the feel of being in your room... but the poo's sound normal to me too..
Goodluck...

Yeah I get that :hugs:

Sleep deprivation is never fun !

Try spending some time in there so he gets used to the smell of the room & try to see whether you can heat the room somehow so it takes the chill off.

Also try sleeping on his bassinette sheets overnite before you change them for him to use, sounds weird I know but they love your smell, you are mum after all !

Maybe also try a calming CD being played or a noise you know he seems to settle to & try having that in the room for him..

Good luck !

Well his poo's are finally pretty normal. And he's sleeping better, just not in our room, so we have to fix that still. But pretty happy so far, fingers crossed nothing changes!! Well except the sleeping habit!
