Hiya :)
My partner and i have been TTC for quite a while now with no luck, I'm thinking of buying an OPK however i was wondering how well they work and if they are any good for women with somewhat irregular periods?
I'm starting to get so frustrated with each month that goes by, i have a friend who smokes, is miles overweight and god knows what else who conceived on her first month of trying! :crying: Does anyone have any tips that could help me conceive? I would love to hear from anyone who has any advice.. It's getting so upsetting. :(

Have you tried charting your periods and trying on your most fertile days?

It takes different times for everyone and I know it can be so frustrating when you want a baby RIGHT NOW :hugs:

Good luck! It's quite normal to take a few months.

Hi, OPK's are excellent, but I did find some brands confusing to 'read' (sometimes the test line was always the same as the control). The best brand for OPK I found were Discover. I also used another brand, but I cant remember what they were called! I would buy two brands to start off with and compare the results. They are perfect for those with an irregular period as it may detect that you dont ovulate until around day 22 (like me).
Good luck!

(P.S I also found that using OPK's with temperature charting great as well...)

I would definitely recommend using them. I have very long, irregular cycles and was finding it so frustrating TTC. First cycle I used the OPKs I didn't ovulate and get a postive until CD34! But, it worked for us, got a :bfp: first month with the OPKs. Not saying this would be the case for everyone but it's worth a try, it takes a lot of the guesswork out of long or irregular cycles.

I used cheap ones of the internet and they worked fine for me. Good luck:flowerz:

charting your cycle is a great idea...

also, stop trying...sooo many people i know - including myself - feel pregnant once i/we stopped trying.

stress is a huge factor in not conceiving, it disrupts your body's natural function.

take some time out, relax, just enjoy having sex without the stress of trying...and you will be UTD in no time :D

You have nothing to lose by trying the OPK.

The OPK's worked for me when TTC #2...helped me see I O'd on day 17 or 18. I just bought a 50 pack off the internet and went from there...warning you may want to POAS lots of times a day once you get them.;)

Good Luck to you:fingerscrossed:

I didn't like OPK's and prefered to use the maybe baby.. Only used it once and it said I was in transitional phase.. so I figured 3 days later (according to their website and a few mths of charting cycles) I was going to Ovulate.. and it worked!! it took us 19 months of TTC 4 of those monts doing accupuncture to help get my cycles on track (as they were out of whack like yours!).. I know what its like to not fall pregnant when you want though.. :hugs: hang in there

Thanks everyone, can anyone recommend any particular brand? also has anyone else experienced a real sort of paranoia while trying to conceive #1? I'm really paranoid as i don't know what to expect, symptom wise and don't know how I'd deal with all the changes. :o:o

You've been given some great advice so far! It really is up to the individual to decide what method they would like to use to chart their cycles.

I personally have used maybe baby, and found it difficult to read/interpret. I never seemed to get the ferning happening. I often wonder if it's because i did something wrong in the method?

I use OPK at the moment, and have found then fantastic. I prefer to use Lullaby Conceptions OPK. You can buy them online in large packs for a cheaper price. I've heard ebay ones don't work for some and are often unreliable. But i am aware that if you buy OPK from a chemist it can get quite pricey. Lullaby Conceptions sell packs of 20 OPK with pregnancy test kits too. Which i think is handy. I think i paid a total of $25 for this kit including postage to WA.

Using OPK (or maybe baby) like tests can help you determine where in your cycle you are ovulating. In the end, that's what you need to know, as that's when you'll be most fertile and therefore know when to DTD the most. :D For women like you, who have really long cycles or irregular ones, OPK can take the guess work out for you and confirm Ovulation within window of 24-36hrs!

I think combining the OPK's and charting your temp or CM (I observe my CM while also using OPK's) you'll find you can pinpoint your fertile time easily.

I also agree with angelbaby- it is important to try to relax. I know a few friends who have TCCed for almost a yr, and then the month they decide to stop or look into alternatives, they let go of the stress and they fall! I know it's hard....but worth a try, and who wouldn't enjoy relaxing more in todays day and age. :D:yelclap:

Good Luck.

Oh, i'm glad you were able to find them, because $55 for chemist ones seem utterly ridiculous!!

You can actually express post the lullaby conceptions ones...my SIL did this and she received it in less then a few days.

:fingerscrossed: you get them in time. I'm waiting for mine too...

I got them :) it's day 15 and i didn't get a positive.

Is it possible to ovulate later in the cycle? and does it have to be tested at the same time everyday?

they recommend that you use them at the same time each day & i think it depends on the length of your luteal phase. generally ovulation occurs 14 days before your next period however i think this can vary person to person

you should come & join the TTC #1 thread

Hi There,

When you say you tested and it's CD15, did you test every day leading up to and including CD15?

Oing later in the cycle is a possibility, if you have long cycles.

Did you ever get a line....even if fainter than the control line?

Just make sure you pick one time of the day where you test, and do the OPK the same time every day. Also make sure you don't drink too much fluid leading up the test time. ALSO...make sure you have left enough time between loo trips to ensure that you have collected enough of the hormone to be picked up in the test.

Another thing, make sure you test some time between 10am and 10pm...they say 2pm is the best time.

Hope that helps.
