Hi there,

I have just recently found out that I'm expecting identical twins. Is there anyone out there, who is expecting the first or subsequent time with twins? I'd love to chat. Our twins are monozygotic (I think that what they are when they are sharing the same placenta).

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm not expecting twins either, but congratulations. A friend of mine is expecting identical twin boys and has the same condition to my knowledge. She is up to 35 weeks now. She just has a scan done every week to check on their progress.

Good Luck and Congratulations again.

Harlequin...Thanks
Mumoftwoboys2005...Thanks and that's good to know about your girlfriend. It's something that I keep thinking about and I hope to be able to hold onto these bubs for as long as possible.
cheeki28...Congratulations to you as well. It certainly does take a bit of getting used to. We have a 3 year old son, so know I have to look at getting rid of the pram and stroller that I currently have and investing in a double stroller. How far along are you then? You must have had an early ultrasound!! Where are you having the babies?

Shajake,

I ended up buying a new car as well because the twin pram would just fit in my hatchback. I bought a small 4wheel drive.

My twins were born at 37 weeks by C/Section. I was due for an elective C/S at 38.5 weeks but the boys had other ideas so one of them broke my waters on the early hours on the 31/10 and they were born at 5:33am and 5:34am. Thomas was born first he weighed 6.5 pounds and Matthew was born a minute later and he weighed 6 pounds.

I had no contractions it was a very easy birth.

Congratulations!! I have boy/girl twins- they are 22 months old- it's been lots of fun and cuddles, but lots of work as well. Twins are really special- I wasn't looking forward to them coming while I was pregnant- but they are such a delight!

I had my twins at 38 weeks- I was induced (wouldn't do that again) and delivered by emergency c-section. With the help of my midwife mum I've breastfed them (and continue to do so) which has been a lovely experience, though quite hard at the beginning.

If you want any advice, help, product recommendations or help with sorting out your birth plan etc (I'm a doula in training) I'd be happy to help!!

Rest Rest Rest-

Hi, my fraternal twin boys are 14 months old. They were induced at 38 weeks (wouldn't want to do that again, either!) and then delivered by emergency c/section after wayyyy to many hours!

The first 3-6 months is the hardest but then having twins actually gets easy because they entertain each other.

Best of luck

When did you all find out that you are having twins?
I am 18wks today and when I went for my checkup at 15wks the midwife said that there could be 2 in there. But I had already had 2 scans and only showed 1. I have felt movements since I was 9wks. I go for another scan on the 20th.

Congratulations!!!

Hi there,
congrats on the twin pregnancy! Its a shock isn't it!! we found out at my 8 week scan and I almost fainted!!! Am due 16th january... but can't stop worrying about going early...I also have a gorgeous 12month old boy who hopefully will be a good little helper!!??!!
Our bubs are in seperate sacs with seperate placentas...all the reading i have done says there is still a chance they could be identical. DP wants a boy and a girl so he doesn't have to stick name tags on them!! Guess we'll have to wait 'til the 20week scan to find out.

Is there a history of twins in your family?or are you the first one? Apparently my mums aunty had twins, and they were called(don't laugh)... Jack and Jill!

Good luck with everything!!

I have fraternal twin boys who will be 3yo in August. We found out at 6 weeks that we were having twins so we had a long time to get used to it. Having said that, they were born by emergency c-section at 33 weeks. They are our first but we are trying for no.3 so obviously it's not that bad!!

The first three months were the hardest for me, then things got easier until they both started moving! Having just been through the terrible two's, I can honestly say that that was the worst it's ever been but it's surprising what you can cope with when you have to!

Good luck to all expectant twin mum's and feel free to PM me if you need to unload, ask advice, etc.

Hi there, I'm also expecting twins in mid December but hopefully earlier!! Isn't it funny that there's now a couple other Kylie's also expecting twins?!? Freaky...

I'm 16.5 weeks along, will have an u/s on the 13th. I am definitely finding out what flavour I'm having this time around!

With our car (we have a Camry) I'm thinking we'll buy two Compaq Deluxe carseats and it should fit in the car quite comfortably. Prams, I've only had a quick look but not too sure what to get at this point but probably a 3 wheeler side by side. It's so exciting hey!!!

Our son will be almost three when they arrive so hopefully, he'll be a mummy's little helper! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Sam...Congratulations. Were you surprised when you found out?
Myliitletwins...I too will have a ceasar. Was hoping for a VBAC, but not this time.
Kadownie...I'd love to hear some more advise. My twins share the same placenta, so I'm a bit anxious. I too would love to breastfeed, so where do I get the information about breastfeeding twins?
twins+another...Thanks and I've heard that too.
Taddy...I was 6 weeks 6 days when I found out. Thanks and good luck to you too.
Caelanjacksmum...They could be identical, depends on when they split or if you released 2 eggs. If the later, then probably unlikely to be identical. I have no history of twins in my family. This is defenitly a first all round
Cheeki28...How come you found out at 7 weeks? Good luck next Friday. My babies will be identical thus the same sex...I'm hoping that they are girls.
Riley&coopersmum...I will pm you but were they in NICU at all and for how long?
Andrewsmum...Congratulations to you too. Where are you having the babies? Our son will be almost 4 so I'm hoping he will want to help!!!

I'm glad that I've posted...And thank you to everyone who is replying, hopefully this thread will continue to grow. Does anyone know of anyone out there who has/having identical twins who share the same placenta? I'm quite anxious about this as everything is shared.

I look forward to catching up with you tommorrow.

Have a great day.

I will hunt down some info for you about breastfeeding twins- the ABA I think has a booklet- I'll get back to you on it. For me, breastfeeding has been the loveliest thing- but not until 6 months when I started feeding them separately. though it was cute before then, just not the cuddly bonding experience I expected. I am still bf them now (they are22 months) and it's so good- there is nothing like having a secret weapon that will calm two screaming toddlers down in a matter of seconds.

The thing that you have to get your head around is the actual amount of time it takes to breastfeed two newborns- my mother- a midwife- prepared me really well- she just told me to think of myself as a cow that would sit on the lounge and feed all day- so I did that- and it was true- I fed a lot- but I am so pleased I have.

You will have good care at the Mater- are you public or private? They have a great fetal maternal unit. Who is your ob? I had my bubs at the Mater- Glen Gardener was my Ob- lovely man.

Try not to stress too much- and rest a lot- I believe that was the key to getting to term for me- you have to rest. I used to lie down every afternoon for a couple of hours- not so easy when you have another one though.

I found out I was having twins at 11 weeks- at my first scan. I think my doctor suspected which is why he sent me for a scan. Absolute shock set in- I really wasn't wanting twins- but they have wonderful.

I'll get back to you with some breastfeeeding info. If you're in Brisbane, we could catch up some time. How old is your other little one?

I breastfed my twins to 13 months - stopped when they started biting! It was a beautiful experience and I'm so glad I did it, although it was a bit tricky at first.

Have you joined your local Multiple Birth Association? They should have a library with a lot of info (and possibly even video) on breastfeeding twins. If you are interested, go to www.amba.org.au and look on the club finder page.

With regards to your previous question, my two weren't in NICU but they did spend 4 weeks in special care. It was tough going home without them and even weeks afterwards, we felt like some nurse was going to knock on the door and take them back because they didn't feel like they were ours for a long time.

Hi, I am due to have twin boys in September (technically due 8th October) but as they are both breech at the moment I have been booked in (temporarily) for a c-section 25th Sept. We have been told that because the boys each have their own sac and placenta that they will not be identical- but reading a few posts there seems to be an opinion that this may not be the case?

is anyone else around the Toowoomba area?

Hi

I am a new mum to 10 week old identical twin girls! I found out at 8 weeks I was carrying twins - this was a big shock - we emigrated here from the uk 3 years ago and i was worried how I would cope with no family here to help - but u just have to get on with it !!U learn very quickly!!

My girls shared a sac with a thin membrane and also shared a placenta - it was an emotional rollercoster in the first 3 months with a few issues but we got thru it - I was booked in for a c section at 37 weeks but they came exactly 2 weeks early - Emily was initially in intensive care and Jade in special care2 in brisbane - they stayed in hospital for one month - this was v tough - if anything the whole time I was carrying twins - no one ever sat me down and told me that there would be a strong chance they would stay in hospital for a time with the likelihod of them being premature !

The girls are a delight - they keep me v v busy - I look after them all by myself all day and then hubby does the teatime evening shift when he gets home from work !!They are growing all the time and changing !!!Its tru that when u have tiwns its like being in a goldfish bowl - when I go anywhere I get stopped all the time and people stop and stare and whisper - ooh - look at the twins !! Its takes twice as long to do anything when I go the mall !!

If u have any questions dont hesitate to ask !!

Digbysmum...Welcome. I don't know that much about twins but 2 separate sacs can still mean they will be identical. The only real way to know is to do DNA testing I think. Did you conceive them natuarally?
Pom04...Welcome...Well done with your girls so far. I think having just 1 baby puts undue pressure on a couple let alone 2 at the same time. Please come back and continue chatting, we've all been there (or about to start)

Hi Ladies and congratulations on your twins.
I also have twins and they are an absolute delight.
Identical twins certainly can have 2 sacs as they categorize them into 4 groups.
My twins were in the rarest form know as Monochorionic(sharing same placenta) as well as Diamniotic(2 sacs) and Monoamniotic(1 sac) which basically means that they each had their own sacs as well as a single sac around those 2 sacs.
Wishing all of you a delightful parenting experience!!!

anak...Welcome and thanks for posting...Mine are DAMC. Does that mean they are Monochorionic(sharing same placenta) as well as Diamniotic(2 sacs)?

just wanted to let you know my friend is having monoamniotic twins girls....she has been admitted to hospital at 25wks to stay until they are born due to the high risk (only one placenta and one sac) there is a website i believe for mono twins
i hope your pregnancy is going well, hers is but has been very stressful and getting more stressful by the day!!

Hi, sorry I haven't replied to anyone sooner, I have just had a two night stay in my local hospital because I started contractions-I am 30 weeks. Had to be monitored and given the steroid injections along with iron tablets. My latest blood results show that I am anemic, have tachacardia (fast heartbeat) and my haemoglobin lis getting close to transfusion levels! What a lovely way to be! :( Anyway, I am on bedrest at home now - which although sounds nice and restfull is quite hard to accomplish-we also have an 18 month old toddler!

My twins were conceived naturally- my great great grandmother had twins so it's a throwback. Hope everyone else is going well and enjoying being preggers!

Erin
