DS has been a relatively good sleeper until the last two months when he has been constantly ill on & off. We also weaned from the breast around the same time and I have been a bit lazy and used to feed him to sleep often.
I've been trying to use the babybliss technique (borrowed the book from the library) for the last week. At night we can get him to sleep only if we stay there until he falls to sleep. At least he's in the cot, previously we had to rock him in our arms. It's still taking an hour to settle him and he flat out refuses to take a day nap in his cot. We have to 'trick' him by taking him in the pram then tranferring him to his cot after.
I'm not prepared to use controlled crying, and after 90 minutes of settling he still won't go down in his cot.
Any advice? Anyone had a baby that started having trouble with sleeping this late?

We did controlled crying at 15 months and it did work really quickly. But I understand if you don't want to try that.

A few suggestions:
- good pre bed routine - eg. reading books, calming down, quiet talking, but only for less than half an hour, then bed.
- a special teddy/blankie for bedtime
- be consistent whatever you do, with your afternoon and night time settling

My ds's routines go completely out of wack when he's sick. He had a cold nearly 5 weeks ago and it's only been in the last week that he's reliably slept through again. We had nights of 90 minutes to settle over and over again in that time. Ear infections, nasty coughs and then a brief bout of gastro certainly didn't help matters. But, even when he was well he'd randomly wake at 5am, but resettle quickly. It's been such a relief in the last week that he's slept through.

I hope things improve for you soon! :hugs:
