Hi hubbers

My baby daughter was in contact with a toddler who had tonsilitis the previous week. The toddler coughed around my baby and I tried as much as possible to shield her away from the toddler. If my daughter contracts tonsilitis, what symptoms should I be looking for and is it treatable in babies that youing.
Also if the cough is swine-flu related, what treatment is available for infants under 6 months of age.

I'm terribly worried that she may contract one of those two diseases. This is my first born and so I maybe overly-concerned.

All I want to know is if worst comes to worst, what can be done to help her.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this matter.

Is your bub breast fed? If so I would really not be too concerned about the tonsilitis and even if not bf it is REALLY really unlikely, almost unheard of in bubs that young. Both my older two are rediculously prone to tonsilitis and even they didn't get it for the first time until they were about 9 months and that is considered very young. Many children NEVER get tonsilitis regardless of exposure and if the worst happened it is very treatable with an oral antibiotic.

As for swine flu, again- unlikely (if that child didn't have the swine flu!) it is more likely the kid had a lingering viral cough from whatever virus caused the tonsilitis and it is probably harmless. Bub may get a cold but really, you are very lucky if your bub doesn't get a cold sometime in winter!!!!!!

yes you are probably overreacting but all first time mums do, I was a shocker:laughing: My doctor used to be in stiches at the things I brought my first dd into the surgery with.:o

Try not to worry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes:

Thanks for your advice mythreecubs, you've eased my worrying. I wish I could be more relaxed but it just can't be helped. This 4 month old person is the centre of my world now. I didn't know you could love someone as much as this and would do anything to protect her from harm. Bubhub is a great outlet for inexperienced and over anxious mums. I haven't got any motherly figures helping me out with this bub so I do appreciate any helpful advice from mothers out there. I've read the article on over- parenting in this forum and so I'm concious not to be too overly- concerned but like I said it can't be helped sometimes.

My DF had tonsilitis and my DS started coughing a little (chesty) so i took him straight to the doctors, they sadi the first sign is usually sour, bitter breath, and then coughing, my DS was lucky he didnt get a bad case because i caught it early, knowing that DF had it, according to doc its highly contagious so i would be lookin out for any slight symptoms and taking bub to the doctor, DS had oral antibiotics (penicilan based) three times for ten days. He got over it pretty quickly. Good Luck, i hope your little one doesnt get sick.
