View Full Version : MCN for Newborn?
#2 is due at Christmas and I am looking for some tips for what to put him/her in. We started DS out in disposables and terries and started trying out mcn when he was 6 weeks old. Our stash is mostly ittis and we love them:cloud9: but I don't think the smalls would have fit DS from birth.
I'm looking for something trim like the ittis are, and something easy to scrub. Since it'll be the middle of summer and these nappies might be shown off a fair bit, I'd like something sweet looking, not too bright, for my cute little bub. I don't mind if it's fitted, folded, or covered, just not keen on pockets.
Any suggestions? I'm hopeless at this stuff. TIA

Hi Gabi,
I'm not speaking from experience here just what i have read from this great forum and from my expanding MCN collection (bubs due in Oct).
I have got some small Bambooty's and they are small (smaller than an itti) and really trim. If you know what you are having, they have some really cute prints (strawberries for girls and trucks for boys). I can't wait to try these!!!!
Bubblebubs have a newborn size but I think that there smalls are really small and haven't bothered with the newborn size.
I have read that newborn poosplosions can be hard to contain in an AIO so I also purchased some Tots Bots Bamboozle fitteds with thirsties and bummis covers as the gussets in the covers contains the leaking poos better.
The BBH magicalls look huge compared to my Bambooty's, Itt's and Bubblebubs but I hear that it is because they aren't as compact.
I'm sure the others will have plently of valuable info speaking from their experience!
I have a newborn now so I can share what is working for us .
The small bambootys are excellent , I have the easy dry ones . They are super trim and very low rise , not much bigger then a disposable and the colours are really soft and sweet . My DD started wearing hers the day after she was born and were a perfect fit . I haven't had any poo escape from them yet as they have a little gusset as well as the normal leg elastic .
Small fitteds and covers are what we use for nights as they do last alot longer - and lucky for me my 3 week old has started sleeping 5-6 hours at night . I have some Bam Bam bamboo fitteds and they are very good ( on special at Darlings Downunder i think ). I also use booroi bamboo prefolds and covers and they are a little bulky but really good .
My DS is 11 weeks now, but only 4.6kgs so still newborn size.
For fitteds, I love my cherubs kiss raphaels, bamboo lushies & fluffestuff. My fav cover by far are the thirsties & he still fits in an XS, but thinking of getting some smalls.
For AIO/2's, I have some small bubblebubs, which fit great but don't last long till he wets through them. I love my small beetlebums & you can get these in lots of gorgeous minky colours. I have a small CGR but it's still gaping around the leg, but these are a great show off nappy. Fluffestuff's are a great fit & last well.
I also have various OSFM nappies that my 14mth old wears, & these are all still too big, even on the smallest setting.
Happy shopping :flowerz:

My bubbas were 35weekers and only just 5lb, and itti bitti boos fitted from a few weeks old. With a thirsties cover (they have some gorgeous colours) it's a great combo to avoid poo-explosions. You could also get some cute knitted covers or even blueberry minkee covers as a show-off.
Thanks for your replies! I've had a look, those nappies are gorgeous. I think I'm leaning towards fitteds with covers and it's nice to know the thirsties are a good cover.
Has anyone tried swaddlebees fitteds with covers? They do a newborn nappy too. Only thing I've tried of theirs is their breastpads which were awesome.
charlis_mum - do they often restock the bitti boo? I've been checking the itti website for a few months but they always have the same stock and not the colours I want! Not to mention half the photos on their site don't show up for me.:banghead:
