My friend and i who have 9 month old babies (born 2 days apart) were recently comparing how much our children eat. I am a single mum learnig everything as i go and she made me feel like i am stuffing my son full of food he doesn't need. What is the average daily diet of a 9 month old baby.
Here is my sons average day -
4 - 180ml bottles of formula
breakfast - usually a peice of toast (maybe he actually eats half of it) or some farex muslie
Lunch - either a banana, or sandwhich of some sort.
Dinner - whatever we eat - vegies every night
He will also some day eat 1 or 2 milk arrowroots and he averages about 2 - 3 300ml cups of water ever day
As a suggestion to size of serving - if i was to feed him a tin of food for breakfast or lunch he would eat a full tin (the small ones) and be happy.
My friends child eats a small amount of farex for breakfast, lunch is always half a tin of custard and dinner is a tin of vegies (doesn't eat dinner every night)
My son is a big boy - not too big though and she and many others always make comment about what i am feeding him to make him so big?
Would love to get and idea of what other mums are doing

Hi!
I believe every child is different therefore dont let your baby be compared to your friends bub.
It doesnt sound to me like your son is eating too much. My DD is a few months younger and eats more than your friends baby!! LOL! She has the equivalent of 1 1/2 to 2 cans of baby food for dinner each night! She doesnt have that much at her other feeds but her dinner she loves to be a big one! She'll scoff down a full jar of custard if I let her (at luch time)!
It sounds like you are doing the right thing - Keep up the good work! :)
Just like adults, some children will eat more than others.
My DS has always had a huge appetite !!
My girlfriend always said to me when i was worried that i was feeding him too much.. "if he keeps opening his mouth, keep putting food in it !!"
hehe
Keep doing what YOU think is right for YOUR bub.

There was one night when we were on holidays when #1 was about 9 months old that she ate two whole large cans of Heinz for dinner, and was still after supper.
Babies will not generally eat more than they need, so if they want food, give it.
After 12 months or so, the feeding seems to go pear shaped, and you'll be happy for them to eat anything. Enjoy it while it lasts.

my son has just gone 10mths and this is his diet:
3 full bottles
breakfast - 1 piece of toast (he eats all of it) and drink of water/juice
lunch - half sandwich and tin of fruit or full sandwich and a drink of water
dinner - equvilent to large tin of heinz/or a tin of heinz
dessert - small tin of custard
he very rarely snacks, if he does he prefers to chew on a rusk.

I think your bub's diet is fine. Most bubs really do know when they've had enough and will refuse food (unless it's really really yummy). And since what you're offering is healthy I wouldn't worry. I especially like that your bub gets a nutricious lunch instead of your friends bub getting custard. (I never gave custard or sweets to Chloe as a bub choosing instead to give fruit or an occassional arrowroot. I don't have a problem with giving custard as dessert if they've already had a good meal, but she never ate much anyways and I didn't see much value in custard when she was already drinking lots of milk.)

thanks everyone makes me feel better. Common sense tells me all babies are different, eat differently, grow at different rates etc just sometimes you forget that when it seems everyone is constantly questioning everything you do. And they all like to remind me that they have had more than one child - like that makes them better, smarter, with a bit more sense than me!
My son is 9mths and this is his daily food consumption.
4 200ml bottles
Breakfast - 2 weatbix
Lunch - sandwich or yogurt and fruit
Afternoon tea - fruit or yogurt
Dinner - about 1 cup of what ever we eat
As everyone else has said each baby is different so if your son is hungery feed him
Good luck

My daughter is 9 months old and is showing no interest at all in food (just like her big sisters) Im not worried as Im still breastfeeding so I know she is getting everything she requires through bm and when she shows an interest in wanting to eat them im sure she will eat me out of house and home (just like her brother and sisters lol).
They say a baby will always tell you when s/he is full and so as others have said if they keep opening their mouth and wanting food then they must be hungry so feed them.
