The best teri flats i have are the dri glow ones i got them from big W they are very thick. I lso have heas of another brand thet my mum brough and although the square itself is bigger the quality is half of the dri glow ones i have.

Yeah I agree go with dri glow, that's all I use with a few big softies thrown in here and there.
I know you said 100% cotton, but have you thought about using bamboo prefolds? They may last you a little longer as there more absorbent, and not TOO expensive.
The problem with cotton flats is that once your bub starts drinking more they can out wee it with one wee (I know my 4month old DD can, and she isnt even a heavy wetter). So you may have to be changing every 30min. Ive heard that Boori, Bum Boo's Bamboo and Bumboo are good bamboo prefolds (and Bum Boo's Bamboo is currently on sale at ecomumsandbubs). Or maybe look at buying some cheap second hand MCN, ive seen second hand peepods go for as little as $6 each.
We used some of the baby bonus to build our stash, might be able to build a full second hand stash with just 1 installment if your smart about it.

my advice to cloth nappying on a budget - get any brand towelling flats and some snappies (always on ebay are mums selling terry brand new, never used in bulk lots) and invest in a few good pul or wool covers. as i see it , absorbency is the biggest issue. get a few hemp or bamboo stuffers/boosters/prefolds to soak up big wees. if you cant do that stuffing with a few wash cloths (as in towelling bath washers in babies wet zone) work pretty good too! i love my terry as much as my mcns :) i love hanging the terry out on the line! weird huh.
