I went in to the post office today and paid my rego.

The girl in there told me that you can now make payments off it whenever you want. You fill in a form and receive a card which you can take in to the post office and pay off whatever you want. The minimum you can pay off is $40 at a time.

I thought this was a really good idea and makes paying your rego a little easier.

Wow thanks for that info.

I just paid my rego yesterday and I was wondering this morning if you could do something like that to make it easier. I'm going to look into it

Where do we get the form from to apply for a card? I have a 4cyl rego in August and a 6cyl in September. it's getting a bit tight around this place.

It depends what state you live in. I used to live in Vic and over there it was a yearly fee. Im now in SA (yes, I know its unfortunate) and we can choose to pay either 3,6, or 12 months rego. I paid the 6 month one which expires in October and thats when I get a new car, so no money wasted on rego!

victoria now offers a 6 month rego to concession card holders and pensioners  but DP has chosen to just get the 12 month one  our rego is costing $434  a payment card would be way easier for us

You get the form from either the Post office or the Transport department.
You need a form for each car you own.

I was told about this almost a year ago. i should really consider doing that way its like a layby. You only have to put payments aside whateva suits you. Also this way I think instead of paying 6mths rego we could save for 12mths which works out cheaper.

do they do that in WA? We just paid rego for two cars, due within three days of each other, one was $280, the other $240, each for 6 months.

my hubby said its not an option in WA to pay rego off. We could do it in QLD and when we moved back to WA he asked if they had payment plans and they said no. Its stupid though! Maybe WA ppls should start a petition to get payment options brought in for car registration!!! I for one would much prefer putting $40 down whenever i had it and reducing the bulk amount at the end of the year!

ATD-FAH, thanks for that. I think I'll stick to paying it when it is due (lucky me, a renewal arrived in the mail today)

Is that a definate? I just paid my rego at qld transport and asked if they had a payment system and she said I could only pay it 6 weeks in advance if I was going overseas etc, I'm confused

How come everyone in other states have such a low rego amount???!!!???
I live in vic and I pay $505. for a sml lancer coupe 10yrs old.. My hubby pays $460 for a nissan urvan 1980 something??!!??!!?
I would be happy paying $200 each car. Our rwego is due within 2 weeks of each other and if other states charge less then why don't we get a payment plan??!!

I drive a 4cyl Lancer and mines $283 for 6 months, and $537 for 12
and im in QLD, its odd that different states have different amounts.
Mine and hubbys were always due 2-3 weeks apart, so one year i paid one for 6 months and the other for 12 months, that way they are now always 6 months apart ;)

I know this is an old thread, but I could not pass by and not say something about my experience with this 'rego card'...

I went in to the post office today and paid my rego.

The girl in there told me that you can now make payments off it whenever you want. You fill in a form and receive a card which you can take in to the post office and pay off whatever you want. The minimum you can pay off is $40 at a time.

I just want to really WARN people about doing this......

I had it set up for my old car..... they use your license number as you reference number or card number...

I paid $150 to the Post office onto this card. When I paid my rego, I paid the amount MINUS the $150, only to get my rego repayment sent back as it wasnt enough.....

WHY???? Because the RTA had made a mistake when issuing my card, and got 1 number wrong.... My money went somewhere else, and they could not relocate it, even though they had the license number...both the RTA and Australia Post gave me the run around, and I went back and forth between the 2 and NEVER recieved my money back....

So please be warned to make sure you check the number against your license and KEEP the reciepts. I could only find 1 of my reciepts, as we had moved...yet nothing was still done about it....

Dont want to put a damper on it, but it may be safer using a jar at home..That way you know where your money is going.... Or into a seperate bank account, with NO fees. Much safer options.... In my opinion

I'd like to be able to deduct a regular amount using centrepay, in QLD, do you think they'd go for that?
Or even BPAY, anything instead of going into the post office.

NO, you cant do it by BPay, the will just refund the money to you not take it off your rego:no:

I wish ours was $300.. Ours for a 4 cyl is $532 and due in a few weeks.. I would love to know if in vic you could pay it off.. I don't see why they can't do it that way. Make it easier on everyones pockets. I dread to think what our 6cyl will be..
