Hi guys I just have a couple more questions :o

When you first get your mcn's and you have to wash them, can I just chuck them in with other washing or do they need to be in a cycle on their own?

Also, do I need to be wary with colours? DOes the colour in the nappies run?

And is it really important to dry them between each initial wash, or can I just let them half dry and then chuck them back in for another wash?

aaaand, in terms of laundry bags/wet bags, where is a good cheap place to get these? Or are they something I could easily make myself?

I think thats it at the moment  I'm sure I'll think of more questions...I think I just NEED to get my nappies and go from there, maybe then it will be less confusing!

Thanks!!

It's probably best to wash them separately because you're only supposed to use a very small amount (if any) detergent.

The colours have never run in any of my nappies.

No need to dry between pre-washes. I just put them through a rinse cycle, then a wash cycle with the load of nappies I'm doing that day. Then DD wears them and I just keep in mind they won't have reached max absorbency yet.

Hmmm I haven't even got a wetbag yet, but I've seen a BBH one that looked ok. I think it was about $15. I'm sure there's heaps of cute ones around. I just use plastic bags!

I just pop them into those mesh laundry bags and throw them in with my whites and light coloured sheets (but not towels otherwise they get fluff on them) for the first 3 washes (before they have been used), then I wash them separately once they have been used.

Also, do I need to be wary with colours? DOes the colour in the nappies run?

I've never had a nappy run, that said it could happen, though unlikely.

You don't need to dry them at all in-between the prewashes, just chuck them back on.

I got a decent sized wetbag from bambooty for $10, but if you can sew, its just a piece of PUL sewn into a rectangle with a tight zipper on the top, not too hard to make at all (unless your a spaz with the sewing like me and manages to stuff up putting a button back on a shirt)

ok cool thanks harriet(love that name!). And so when you are out, you just pop your dirties into a placcy bag? do you remove the poo first? and what if you can't, just leave it till you get home? spose thats the only option really :D
And do you use cloth wipes when out? would it be ok to just have some pre-wettened cloth wipes and just throw them in a bag with the nappy?
sorry i probably sounds really st*pid, just wanna get it all nice and clear in my head! :D thanks

Solids poos are very recent for us!!! In fact, I don't think I've encountered one while out yet:) But, yes I would probably just throw it in a plastic bag and deal with it at home. I'm not sure how the smell factor will go.....it might be time to get a wet bag for that reason. But so far, with wees and BF poos I've just put them in a plastic bag and no worries about smell.

I tend to use wipes when out, which I hate and find hopeless after cloth wipes. BUT, water is not always to hand for changes while out. Pre-wetted wipes is not a bad idea:detective:

I do this too with my new ones. I have the BBH wetbag, its good and i recommend getting one or if not that one, a big enough one with a zip.

When iwas pregnant i prewashed my MCN's for 3 washes, i just kept the machine going, didn't dry in between. I've never had colours run.

i use disposable wipes and chuck everything in my wet bag (wet & dirty, even wipes) then deal with at home. i have plastic bags in my nappy bag too just in case its a real big dirty nappy. you just wash your wet bag in with your nappies when it needs washing.

you can use cloth wipes when your out just keep a small bottle of water (or what ever you decide to use) in the nappy bag to wet them when needed
