My 4 y/o Jesse has asthma. So far this Winter (which hasn't even been a month!) he's been to Emergency twice. He's finally been prescribed a preventer after alot of indecisiveness from the medical fraternity as to whether or not his asthma is severe enough to warrant a preventer.
I've never been to a Naturopath (or had much faith in them just quietly), but I'm willing to try anything. Jesse seems to really struggle through the colder months and seems to constantly have a cold, which is a trigger for his asthma. I know that when I take him to the doctor I'm usually told, "it's viral :ecomcity: :ecomcity: :ecomcity: " & I'm starting to get really frustrated with his health (as he must be), so maybe with a Naturopath's help we can boost his immune system so he's not as susceptible to colds and in turn asthma in the colder months.
Please help!

A lot of people from my office have used:

Kristan Gilbert
Suite 36, Level 3, 12 Collins St Melbourne VIC 3000
ph: (03) 9663 9162

Personally I have used a traditional chinese medicine doctor who used herbs and accupressure massage to help DD#1 with glandular fever:

Victor Wu Chinese Medicine
510 Waverley Rd Mt Waverley 3149
(03) 9802 1238

Thanks so much for the quick reply...I can always count on Bubhub girls to give me answers!!!
The chinese medicine doctor - forgive me for my ignorance, but does it actually help, could you see a difference in your child's health?
I've been brought up with the attitude "a doctor knows how to help you...don't bother with anything else" which, if Jesse's health is anything to go by, is utter rubbish!

Mamaduke- like you I am now desperate with DS's reflux. So i have decided to bite the bullet and booked an appointment with a naturopath for tomorrow morning.

Desperate times call for desperate measures!
Will let you know what i think of our naturopath after tomorrow if u like.

That would be great Lut...thanks!
I was talking to my mum tonight about maybe seeing a Naturopath (this is the person who instilled the utmost confidence in doctors in me!) and even she agreed to see one.
She did say though...
"ask the ladies on that forum you go on to recommend one...
you don't want one of those mumbo jumbo witch doctors who wants you howl at the moon on the 3rd night of every month and cover Jesse in chook feathers!"...
honestly, I don't know where she gets this stuff from!!!:D

I saw a fantastic homeopath and natropath earlier this year. This is his website http://www.homeopathiccentre.com.au/about.htm

He was absolutely fantastic, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. I too was a little skeptical, but the results were so good I am now converted!

I obviously went to the wrong place.
God the one is saw this morning was absolutely USELESS!!!
I wanted to put either her head or my head through a window!
She was just plain stupid.

She suggested I stop bf 7 month old DS. Her words were "it's time you go your way and he goes his way." WTF? He is 7 months old twit!!!
What kind of stupid thing is that to say??
Her explanation was that he doesn't need cow milk, after all we are not cows. "Try goat milk!" she says.
Don't know if she noticed, but i am not a cow either (though at times i suppose that debateable based on whether i'm provoked or not).. and DS is not a goat either! She has a uni qualification?!?!?!

I'm off and it wa the worst $50 i ever spent!

Off to try the osteopath next!

It made a HUGE difference. She went from unable to walk from one end of the house to the other without curling up in a ball on the floor, to able to make her confirmation at church 3 days later. There was a noticable improvement within 24 hours. The course of herbs he prescribed lasted 4 days. After 4 days, when the herbs ran out, she was bed ridden again. Started back on the herbs, and she was able to go back to school. She had herbs for about 12 days in total, and then was pretty much OK.

There is no doubt in my mind that the herbs helped where western medicine could only offer panadol for her fever, and bed rest. And I was a card carrying sceptic beforehand, but figured it was worth a try.

Oh no Lut, that's terrible :( . What ridiculous things to say. Where abouts did you go?

I can only say from experience that Anthony was great. I hope you find the answer very soon.:fingerscrossed:

Apparently there is a good one in Templestowe but I don't have a name or phn number (can't remember the name of the lady - but I did hear good things about her) - so I'm probably not much of a help -sorry - good luck with finding one anyway

I know children are called 'kids' but that's ridiculous!!!
aardvark...that's great that the chinese medicine doctor helped your daughter. I think I'll have to book an appointment for Jesse there.
Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
BTW - my best friend almost fell over when I told her I was looking at taking Jesse to a Naturopath...gives you some sort of idea of what a sceptic I am, but if it makes my little boy even a little better - it's a good thing!!;)

She "is" a naturopath (and i use the term loosely!) that travels around different stores of a certain health food chain. This was particularly in a shopping centre in the North West suburbs.
Less than impressed I must say. I feel stupid for going there.
At least DH has seen the funny side of it. He can't stop laughing about it tonight.

The one you've suggested is so far from us. I took DS for his reflux. It's really doing my head in and was getting desperate.. obviously! :o
