I have been taking my bub to the local Medical centre at Coorparoo and but have been quite dissatisfied with the service - I am concerned about my 8 month old bubs weight (less than 3rd percentile and slowly dropping) but constantly get told by the GP there that she is just a small child and at least wont be "plump" when she grows up...!!!!

I also need to get checked out myself - with so much going on in the family I have not as yet managed to have my own health examined since she was born.

I just found out that the Mother-Baby Hub in Strathpine is closing down and it was exactly what I was looking for in terms if a GP with a special interest in Women and Childrens health so I am quite disappointed.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a place that does something similar? We live in Coorparoo and ideally would like something nearby but am willing to travel anywhere if they offer services similar to the above.

THanks!!!

I used to go to Karenne Waldie at Walton Bridge Medical Centre (Ferny Grove). She has 4 children of her own and a strong interest in women's health. She can be quite hard to get into and its a bit far away for me to get there now (I live on the southside) but she really is a fantastic doctor.

I've been really unhappy with the doctors on the southside, but I recently saw Scott Preston at Camp Hill medical Centre and he seemed really good, he spent a lot of time with me. They don't bulk bill though even with a HCC.

Hope that helps.

Hi Lokibird!
I haven't got a great GP recommendation for you, my last 3 GP's have all gone on maternity leave!! It was great having a pregnant GP (they all had little kids too) becuase they were so knowledgeable about pregnancy and newborns! One even encouraged me to breastfeed while she was asking questions/ making notes, she was in no rush at all!
I have found that female GP's tend to be better and take more time. The medical centre that I go to they encourage you to book a longer/ double consultation if you think that you will need it, I think they charge a little bit extra, but it might encourage the Dr to take more time with you.
The other thing that I would recommend is Coorparoo Child Health. I have been there a couple of times and the Child Health Nurses are great, especially if you have concerns about your little one's weight.

Hey Anna!!
Yes we went to the Coorparoo health centre a few times very early on for the health checks but for some reason I thought that once you had the official 6 month one done that was it. I was quite happy with the nurses there so may try to make an appointment ASAP.
Thanks also julietv8 for your reply. I'll see how I go with the nurse at the HC and if no luck I will most likely give either Drs Waldie and Preston a go.

I have two young boys and have been going to Healthy Women Medical Centre at Indroopilly for about 4 years. They have all female doctors and specialise in womens health. They were lovely and comforting to me. They listened to me.

The doctor I saw happened to be a lactation specialist and has helped me with breastfeeding attachment coz we allknow how hard that is.

Anyway hope this info is helpful

Good luck:wave:

if you want a fantastic paediatrician ask for a refferal to Dr Bruce Lewis at the Wesley. he is awesome, so kind, gentle and loving towards the bubs every time he saw our kids he would say hello and play with them and give the a little cuddle before he examined them, he is also a lactation consultant too.
