View Full Version : Cloth Questions
Does anyone use the good ol fashioned Square Terry toweling nappies that you have to fold??? I used them with DS until he was about 6-7mths old, i loved them, but he wet through heaps and pee would leak out the sides, no mater how i folded them.
So i would like to research MCN for my next baby (when its conceived ) so i have a few quick questions
1. How mant do you use in an average day?
2. How often to you have to wash?
3. how many do you have?
4. What brand and size do you use?
5. how long can you use them is there a cut off age at all?
6. How much are they? approx
7. How much did your "Stash" cost?
Thanks heaps ladies, Cloth on
bear in mind that these answers are for my DS at 15 months and we started cloth full time at a bit before 12 months.
1. How mant do you use in an average day? 4 to 5 depending on the poo factor :p
2. How often to you have to wash? every second night I do a load, but could go 3 days
3. how many do you have? maybe 15?
4. What brand and size do you use? all sorts, very varied stash.. some WAHM naps, bambooty, sooki la la, baby safari and more
5. how long can you use them is there a cut off age at all? until toilet trained I suppose!
6. How much are they? approx $20 - $40 depending on which brand, sales etc
7. How much did your "Stash" cost? more than DH thinks :D
Thanks Jag :) why did you change to cloth, if you dont mind me asking? I really should read into it more, i quite like the idea af cloth.
I couldnt/wouldnt continue with DS because we moved into a bus and i didnt have much room for buckets ect ect, and i honestly didnt think it was possible. Now i have a house again i will investigate changing back.

1. How mant do you use in an average day?
Between 5 & 8.. (Ds is a super pooper trooper though ) I've heard some don't use as many.
2. How often to you have to wash?
1 load every 2nd day, they take a day or two to dry where I am though so its about a 4 day rotation.
3. how many do you have?
Quite a few lol. Some don't work for Ds or don't fit well though.
4. What brand and size do you use?
bbh magicalls lrg. Issy bear osfm. greenkids osfm. peapods med. itti bitti dlish lrg. mandymac osfm. bonnibuns osfm. cushie tushies osfm.
5. how long can you use them is there a cut off age at all?
Some have weight ranges... but i've heard of some ladies on here with 5yr olds using them at night, so i don't think theres a cutoff age :)
6. How much are they? approx
Largely depends on the nappy... peapods $20, itti bitti $29ea? issy bears $29.... Although one size fits most nappies will be more expensive it also saves you needing to buy all the sizes as bub grows which can save extra money :).
7. How much did your "Stash" cost?
Probably $600? although it seems like alot, It would have been thousands for disposables. & next time I will know which nappies fit best and which ones arn't worth the money.
Thank You SmileyBJ, What is your favourite brand??
I know what you mean about the disposables. :)

hi!
well my son and my daughter are totally different, my son hung onto his wees and did a big one every 3 hrs or so , so he required quite an absorbent nappy and changing 2-3 hrly and a good night nappy. my daughter i swear she wees a large wee hourly. he used between 6-10 a day and she uses 8+. anyway to answer your q's -
1. How mant do you use in an average day? as above
2. How often to you have to wash? daily i prefer to wash because i dont like urine smells around the house.
3. how many do you have? including terry squares, fitted, pockets, covers, aios - 60+. not from necessity just i got a bit of an addiction hahaha.
4.What brand and size do you use? all different - you have to research the net and see what looks appealing to you and get one sent !!
5. how long can you use them is there a cut off age at all? my son tt at 2. that was sad i had to retire the clothies early. fuzzi bunz make an extra large pocket apparently does a larger child say up to age 3?
6. How much are they? approx - $20 for a pea pods, all the way thru to $30 + for bumwear, happy heinysand bumgenius.
7. How much did your "Stash" cost? i have just outlayed roughly $300 for aio's and a few bits and peices for new bub. approx 13 nappies. incl postage it averages $23 a nappy. not bad since u wash and continue to use for 2 yrs - when a pack sposies can cost that weekly and you have nothing to show for it !!

regarding the terry nappies also - i love them :) go to the nappy lady website. theres some awesome folds. it makes grandmas say 'wow i never saw that fold before'! HAHA. theres a few with absorbency all at the front for little boys and a great one for little girls with a pad all thru the middle. i say if you want to terry invest in some pul covers for days and a wool soaker for night ! they are easy to wash and fold, are cheap and easy for at home.
1. How mant do you use in an average day? Anywhere from 6 to 10 depending on how much she poops, and if were home.
2. How often to you have to wash? I wash every 2nd night, and give them the night and next day to dry.
3. how many do you have? hmm... think I have about 40, however 10 of those are the next size up that were not using yet.
4. What brand and size do you use? We are using mediums atm, and OSFM, but I have a few large waiting for when she gets bigger. We have lots of different brands, my favorite is Fluffybubs for day, and bbh fitted with a wool cover fir nights.
5. how long can you use them is there a cut off age at all? You should be able to use them as long as they fit, so some you can use from a few months old to 2.5-3, i've heard of peoples 5 and 6 year olds wearing cloth.
6. How much are they? I got some ittis for $20 each from expo, and some second hand nappies for $20, my pretty new ones (fluffy bubs, bonnibuns, wild child) were up at the $30 mark, but well worth the money as there great nappies and have excellent resale value.
7. How much did your "Stash" cost? I don't even want to think about it.. inc postage, I'd say around the $800 mark, however we have enough nappies to do day and nights until she toilet trains (and we started at 3 months), so much cheaper in the long run.

What a great website. :) i have bookmarked it.
I live in the tropics so nappy covers and the wool covers tend to make him hot and he gets nappy rash, i used to change him every hour.
