Was wondering if anyone knows of any natural reflux remedies. My DS is 6.5 months old and has been on Zantac (anti reflux meds) since birth but they weren't working so I stopped it. But his reflux is really bad! I want to stop it but want to see if there is a natural remedy for it instead of putting him back on zantac. He is a happy chucker but I am going nuts.
Does anyone have any ideas. I am drowing under piles of washing and am so tired of being spewed on!:barf:
I have herd of people using a ciropractor (sp?) to help with reflux.
If your baby is happy there really wouldn't be much use in using Zantac as it will only ease the pain not stop the vomits. I took both my kids of Zantac when they were about 8mths but they continued to throw up until they walked so I can sympathise with the washing:hugs:

Im going to a chiropractor on tuesday as my homeopath has highly recommended it, also i have read that a product called Marina Infant mixture which is all based on homeopathic ingredients and has rave reviews with alot of people and it has also been on A Current Affair.
I have seen a number of people recomending it on a few forums here so i have ordered myself a bottle.
The website is:
www.morzone.com.au (http://www.morzone.com.au)
People claim to see results within 48hours so it might be worth a try.
Bruaers is a homeopathic brand also and is for colic/reflux.
:)
Zantac will only reduce the acidity of the vomits and stop it burning their throats but won't help with the vomiting. Both of my children have been reflux sufferers and Zantac has definately helped with their pain but defintately not the amount they spew. Reflux is usually caused by an immaturity in the valve that is supposed to stop the food coming back up, I don't know if their is anything that can help the valve start working correctly apart from time. Good luck with it.:)
My daughter is almost 5 months old and had a lot of reflux ( althought it didn't bother her). My paed. put her on Losec but I found it gave her stomach cramps and she was unsettled a lot of the time ( and it didn;t really stop the relfux). I stopped giving her the losec after being on it a month and went to my naturopath where she suggested I give my daughter some Slippery Elm Powder (under 1/4 tsp) mixed with a little breast milk. It's like a paste and I give it to her with a spoon twice a day after a feed. I have found it has made a big difference to the amount of reflux she has. I am going to start her on some rice cereal soon and I have been told to keep giving her the Slippery Elm Powder and to mix it with the rice cereal now.
I got the Slippery Elm Powder from a health food shop but you should find a naturpath and get them to look at your bub first.

Unbelievable! Am I an idiot magnet or what?
The naturopath I took my refluxing DS to last week was a real twit. After handing over $50 I was told it was time for DS and I "to go [our] own ways". Apparently I have breastfed him for too long and should stop bf and give him goat milk ("not cow milk cos afterall, we are not cows!" :banghead: )
When i relayed this to DH that night, he couldn't stop laughing. He asked if she was aware that he was 7 months old, not 17 years old!
My next step is an osteopath. That was recommended to me as well. Nobody mentioned the Slippery Elm Powder.
I can relate to those who are at their wits end because of reflux soooo much. Thiis is my second child and second one with severe reflux!!! I guess I just got lucky!

Are you bottle or breast feeding? If bottle, add " Karicare thickener", it may be hard to get at some places, but generally most larger chemists sell it. They say on the tin (it is a small 300g tin) that if breastfeeding it can be mixed with either cooled boiled water or exp. breast milk, mix till smooth and feed from a spoon cup or syringe before during or after a feed.
It is supposed to be tasteless, but I have never been game to try it!
This product is a life saver for us!! It will help the milk stay down. :fingerscrossed:
We have tried the chiro, but it didn't work for us. It helped with everything else, but just not the reflux. However, I would still recommend a chiro for an unsettled especially colicy baby. :D

lol I was more stuck on the fact that the naturopath implied your child wasn't a cow but a goat? lol

Yes, well to say that I took that comment quietly might be an understatement. I did *gently* point out that just as I am not a cow (was debateable after comments i suppose), DS was not a goat!
I swear, I think DH thought the $50 was worth the laugh he got just hearing about it that night. :o
I don't know of any natural remedies but Gaviscon Infant has been the miracle drug for Poppy. She use to :barf: most of her bottles all the time in between feeds too and ever since she has taken this no spews at all really just a litttle at the end of the feed if she guzzles to much. You can get it at the chemist it's for breastfed and bottlefed babies.

Garrett has been placed on part reflux formula feeding part breastfeeding as nothing else has worked.
He would almost convolse (sp?) when it came up before - the zantax made the vomiting worse, and he is still seemed stressed by it, gavison did nothing at all. The Formula is seeming to help alittle tho.
Im sympathising with the washing tho - its going crazy here.

My baby is 3 months old and we've tried medicine and various other things. The only two things that really seem to help is my wife modified her diet to cut out various things like dairy, eggs, etc. Additionally, we have to keep our daughter upright most of the day.
I also read that crying is one of the worst things for babies with reflux. Comfort them as much as possible and reduce crying. That also seemed to help a bit.
I just started a reflux remedies (http://www.refluxremedies.com) blog.
Perhaps ask your paed for different meds. DS2 is on Nexium and it reduced the acid reflux straight away - he still chucked for a while tho until we changed formula.
Acid reflux can lead to long term problems like scarring of the osophegus and very long term possibilties of cancer.
Try adding Inner health plus for kids (different culture to the adult one) to the formula or make a paste and smear it on your nipples before a breast feed, it can help rebalance their tummies.
If he's on cows milk formula, he could be allergic to it and probably allergic to goats milk too (as I am). My son is also allergic to soy protein too, hence why he's on synthetic formula. Why on earth do some naturpaths and others think that goats milk is better - isn't it meant for baby goats. Why don't you try sheeps milk ?(joking!!!).
Good luck tho

We're taking her to the pediatric GI specialist on Wednesday. We need a small miracle. It's hard to continue the way things are going.
