View Full Version : Am I doing something wrong? (aka leaking nappies..)
My little man is 6 months old and weighs just over 8kg. He has been in Huggies Crawler nappies for quite a while now. We have just started on solids recently and every single dirty nappy is an explosion - leaking up the back, through his clothes etc etc...
I thought of trying the Toddler nappies (or whatever the next size up is) but they say only from 10kg.
They seem to fit firmly, its just that it always seems to happen when he is sitting up in his car seat, pram or Bumbo chair (so it can't go forward in the nappy if you know what I mean).
Any ideas or tricks??

Its lovely isnt it.... a few months ago i picked DD up and ended up with poo all over me as it escaped out of the top of the nappy
Im just about to start DD on the next size up in nappies... which is the Toddler size. Maybe you should just grap a box and see if it makes a difference... the only thing with going the next size up is you get less nappies in a box :banghead:
Does he make noises when he is doing his business??? My DD is a silent Pooer  ... i was going to suggest if he makes noises or you know he is doing his business maybe lay him down??
I have many friends with babies and including myself have all had this problem.
It is something that just seems to happen from time to time with babies development. Most of us tend to think that it may be an in between time for nappies (the current ones are too small but the next size is too big and makes the problem worse. It happens more so at night (in the morning the wake soaked).
My DS problem was the same as yours. He only pooed every 4-5 days (which apparently up to 10 days is fine for a bf baby) and there was so much and a much worse mess if he was sitting when it happened.
If you can tell he is about to poo (strain face) maybe take his nappy and pants of and just leave him on an old towel until it happens.
Thanks for the advice. Yes, he is a silent pooer...no hints at all. At least I know I'm not the only one...
Out of interest, is it better to take all their clothes off first before changing the nappy (when it leaks) - can't believe I've never thought of that before now...

Ugh Yuck - I remember that too well ;) .. I think its worse when they are in between nappy sizes - but i found some brands of nappy were worse than others too.
Its definately easier to strip all clothes off though before you change the nappy.. otehrwise you just end up with trying to not get any of the clothes touching the fresh nappy as you try to pull them off lol..

My grub did the same thing at that age.......beware of blueberries, they look like a lava flow at the other end!!!
I never really went off the weight on the box as dd got older. I found that i actually put her in a larger size a bit before the box said and i had no problems, it seemed to actually help a bit...more room i guess:p ...I agree with what the other ladies said. If you know hes about to go, lay him down, and even open the nappy up to give him some more room.....just be armed with wipes or a towel incase things turn ugly
