View Full Version : brainstorming cloth pad ideas
could I get some help with brainstorming some ideas please?
DD and I use cloth pads, I like them, so does DD but she's stopped as she feels that they bunch up and don't stay in place like a 'sposie with a sticky back does
I'm trying to think of some way to keep them in place... I thought of velcro or snaps.. but am thinking, when you sit down wouldn't they kind of stretch and detach? thinking of a pocket type thing in undies.. but you'd have to change your whole undies whenever you change. I tried more 'grippy' fabric (velvet, mircofibre etc) but nup.. didn't really work
any bright ideas?
I have no idea...could you use snappies...have special af undies? Do you have the problem at all or just your daughter?
May i ask what ones you use, what you find best. I havent got af since having DS but very keen to try when she does come back.

What kind is she using?
The only one of mine that I have had a problem with was one that has velvet. The rest are find and I haven't had a problem with movement. All of mine have snap fastening.
I make my own. I use all sorts of fabric but generally a minky upper (which is fine..lovely and lush on your girly bits!), and PUL on the bottom. Perhaps a different fabric? I might grab some old undies and try snaps on them. I thought having snaps on your actual undies might be a solution.. or velcro? hmm.. off to experiment!

So there is no fastening on the pads at all?

Have you looked at some of the cool designs for inspiration?
Could you sew 3 layers.. i.e have the nice mink then pul then a layer of a less slippery fabric like a flanell fabric or suede or cord?
The only thing I can think of is the pul is causing it to slip and not stay in place?
The snaps do work well, I borrowed my friends snap gun thingie to pop snaps on mine, no issues since

Try making them like this:

Each Pad has a flannel top layer, 2 layers of batting (medium flow), cotton muslin quilted and then sewn and turned with the PUL. Then the "pad" is sewn onto the wing piece
So there is no fastening on the pads at all?
um, yeah,, i didn't explain that well! LOL
yeah, they do have snaps.. wings with snaps.
I was considering putting one side of the snap on the pad and the other side on some undies.. I might get some cheap 'period use' undies.. so therefore they are actually stuck right on.
thanks for the input all :)
bought some very funky flannel today so I'm off to sew right now

I've only had an issue with one pad moving and that is due to the material. I've found that you also need a certain type of undie, they need to be the bikini kind and firm. No boylegs, french knickers, or the ones that do the no vpl thing.

So far I havent had any 'slippage' lol but maybe its because your DD is 'smaller' so the pad moves around in her undies due to this ???
I dunno I am tired ( 2hrs sleep ) so I cannot think !
My only suggestion would be Microfibre
Yanno like the nappy inserts or wash cloths ! They stick to fabric like glue or at least a few that I have do ! So maybe using that on the other side of the PUL so no leakage will help it 'grip' her undies ????
that's a good idea Ally
you think the microfibre would have compression leaks? would a hidden PUL layer stop that? hmmm
(oh and :hugs: for the tiredness!)

Yeah it definitely would
PUL would stop that but obviously only for some time iykwim ....
All I ever used on Boof when he was younger was his GK's & the microfibre inserts ...
It meant I had to change him every 3hrs to stop those leaks but if we were out I used a small hemp insert about the size of a oh I dunno pocket dictionary lol not that thick obviously ;) which had 3 layers & it worked a treat holding for 4hrs easily.
So if you had enough absorbancy within the pad itself then your PUL & one layer of the thin microfibre it should be fine for 4hrs easy ... But I could be wrong as it would depend on her flow obviously !
I am not always the best judge as I have a really light flow ... As in I dont need anything more than a regular pad & that can last hours. Back in the day I could have seriously leave a light tampon in all day & only then would it maybe be full ... Total waste going through the amount I did when needing to change them to stop nasties iykwim !
