View Full Version : Would you dress your boys the same?

We're going to my Goddaughter's Communion in August and I'm debating on whether or not to dress the 'Duke boys' in the same outfit.
The outfit I'm thinking of is in my avatar (Lucas is wearing it - he's the smaller one).
It's from Gymboree and I love the way it looks on them - a nice crisp blue shirt, the light blue vest and tan coloured cords...it looks very cute!
I don't know whether it would look a little pathetic to have them both dressed the same -
I've started the poll because;
a) I've never done one before!
b) The friends that I've asked seem to be divided on an answer.
Would you dress siblings the same for a special occasion?
That'ld be SOOOOO cute.
Do it! :)

I probably wouldn't. But that's only because my cousins (both girls) used to get dressed the same alot, especially at special occasions, and they hated it. But their Mum did it until one was about 10. Your boys are younger, so you can still get away with it. If you think they look nice, then go for it!

I would - especially as it's such a cute outfit!

Nice funky outfit and rather cute, but dressing kids the same - no way.
My opinion is proberly a wee bit tainted ....my mother dressed my sister and I the same for functions etc and we both hated it!!

See, I never had a sister and I was always a wee bit jealous of the sisters who got to dress the same!:o
They're only 4 and 2...surely I couldn't scar them too much by dressing the same just this once...or could I?

Yeh I think they are young enough for you to get away with it. And those outfits are really groovy! How can you resist???

I think the outfit is quite cute!
I think I probably wouldn't dress my two kids the same (providing I HAD two kids...lol)...though I may SORT OF co-ordinate them.
My mother and her 2 sisters used to have the exact same outfits as each other when they were little (even same hair style!)...and though it's kinda cute, it's also kinda weird when you look back at photos and everyone is wearing the same thing.
I think different clothing allows children to feel a bit more individual and unique (though I'm not child psychologist...so I really have no idea).

It's always the way, hey? The grass is always greener on the other side ... :D
I don't think you'd scar them. All kids have to be dressed the same for some family/special occasion at least once (and don't forget the photos!) so that they have something to look back on when they're 21 and comment how their mum 'humiliated' them at the age of 4!!! LOL. As I said before - I'd go for it. If I had 2 DS or DD I'd do it.
We used to be dressed the same or we'd have our 'set colours' - I was blue; #1 sister was pink & #2 sister was yellow (this was for clothes, school bag, hair lackies, bath towels etc etc). Mum thought it was easier to distinguish all of our stuff as there's under 4 years between myself & my youngest sister. To this day blue is my fav colour. Not so sure about the other 2 though!

Its only for a special occasion & worst case scenario maybe you could find a different coloured shirt to go with the vest for J ?
But i think its adorable & would do it hehehehe i always wished i had a sibling around my age to do such things with as my mum would dress my older sisters in the same or similar outfits as they were only 2 1/2 yrs apart whereas as by the time i came along with an 11 & 9yr difference she had trouble trying to convince me i wasnt old enough to wear what my sisters were at the age of 6yrs LOL !!!!

Lucas already has the photos of him dressed (courtesy of his crazy Mummy) as a little baby girl named Charlotte though...:o

LOL Orlando has one too heeeee before he had his first hair cut and had gorgeous curls he was so pretty as Olivia:eek:
I would dress them the same, I loved it when my mum would make or buy my sisters and i the same outfit, I loved co ordinating from a young age hehehehe
My boys are 5 and 3 and they ask to wear the same clothes as each other.
I used to see kids at the shops all dresse the same and i'd think- "poor kids".
BUT i get it now. When your out in public with two (i have 3 and 1 more on the way) it is alot easier to remember what they are wearing, spot them if the wander away from you etc if they are wearing the same clothes. Its much easier to remember 1 outfit as opposed to two.
I wont let the kids wear the same clothes for long as i do think it looks wrong when they are older but for now its fine:cool:
I'd say do it for sure.

I don't have boy BUT if I did yep I'd dress them the same but age permitting... if one is a fair bit older then nahhh and they'd have to be the same age range for clothing.. iykwim
I don't really like it but only would if I found a fantastic outfit for one but couldn't find another for my other child.
my girls are 2 years 2 months apart in age and when they were little i dressed them in the same outfits on special days and now they loooove to wear the same clothes ..most of their best clothes are the same. they wear the same shoes and want their hair the same too!
my 9 year old is now only 2 inches taller than my 7 year old and they are often asked when they are out dressed the same if they are twins! when we shop they want the same things or sometimes decide to get different outfits so they can swap.
i think its cute and special for the family event you are going to.

no way not a big fan of having kids dressed in the same outift
alot of the mums saying "NO" dont have more than one child let alone two of the same sex?
See, I never had a sister and I was always a wee bit jealous of the sisters who got to dress the same!:o

Personally, on some kids, its cute
But for me, NO. I would never dress any my children the same way.
(unless its a wedding you know)
If they want to dress the same for halloween or adress up party, fine, their choice but i would never get them matching things or the same thing but different colour.
I mean, would you put a baby in a sailor suit??
LMAO mamaduke, poor Charlotte.
I wouldn't do it. My reasoning would probably be the opportunity to purchase two different really cute outfits. :o
Sorry Mrs Duke, I wouldn't do it. I'd dress them in similar colours, but not in the same clothes.

I don't know, part of me says yes.
My big DD has asked for the same clothes as my little DD. I have gone as far as the same t-shirt but different pants/skirts.
I do like the Gymboree idea of having the family sets, similar but not the same.

I would do it as they're both still young :) Plus the outfits gorgeous!

There was another vest in the same range but it was in a pale yellow and I didn't really like it - that's why I bought 2 vests the same.
What a quandry!!

If you asked the question, Should I dress my boys in pale yellow? My answer would have been a very loud No.
Go on they are your kids and they are little enough for it to be cute. When they are 12 it is a different story.

Before I had two boys, I never thought I would want to dress them the same. As soon as I had my DS2 I went out and bought matching outfits so we could to family photos with them wearing the same thing
I used to think how could anyone want to do it, now I think it's cute, especially while they're young. Your boys are young enough to do it, I say go forit!!
It does seem to be people who only have one child who are saying no :detective:

I have dressed my boys the same, on the occasion, and i don't think there's anything wrong with it! My oldest has just turned 2, and the youngest is 1 tomorrow....neither of them speak yet, so can't really voice an opinion on the subject lol....but if either had an objection i wouldn't do it.
We're going to my brother's wedding in October and the boys will both be wearing their kilts....I may or may not buy different coloured shirts for them to wear, haven't decided yet.

Sometimes I might dress them in the same KIND of outfit (ie both dresses-providing my next bubba is a girl or both jeans or whatever) but I'm not sure if it'd be the exact same thing, maybe if I had same sex twins.
I dress my boys the same, the twins love to dress the same, and so do the 8&10 year old 9 times out of 10!
I would definetly dress my boys the same for special occasions and stuff, only because of the large age gap it is pretty much impossible to find them matching clothes. I think it looks very cute
There' nothing wrong with it and it could look cute, but its sort of old fashioned to me.
Having similar would be cuter.
I wouldn't do it. Im not a fan of siblings being in the same outfit, perhaps in similar outfits, and different colours, but definitley not the same.
If I had twins I would dress them different too.

alot of the mums saying "NO" dont have more than one child let alone two of the same sex?
 ....thats like saying that you can't ask your parter (diff sex) if you look good in something, "Cause how would he/she know, they've never worn it."
lol crappy example but you get what I mean...
No I don't have any children, BUT I do have twin brothers and sisters (two boy/girl sets who are only 2.5yrs apart) and find it :barf: to dress children the same. Like someone said, I don't see anything wrong with dressing them in one similar item ie. jeans, kilt, jacket, vest....but not a carbon copy....unless its to be part of something such as a bridal party ie. flower girls
Mamaduke this is funny!
cute OR pathetic?
Aaaah both i think:yes:
I dress my kids the same occassionally
Though its difficult with the diff in sizes.
With my boys I might get them similar clothes -
maybe same style diff colour
They look diff anyway as they are 3 and 8m
Plus they have diff features as well.

hi:wave:
i grew up having to look/dress like a twin with my sibling, i hated it and so did she, so i'd never do it to my two boys.
a very big no from me.
 Nah i wouldnt do it - I hate it when i see other kids out like that.
I think kids need their own personality and their own image.
Very funky outfit tho  - maybe you can find something similar - same style just not exactly rhe same??
I think my avatar answers that question for me ... :D
But only when they are little....
I was a bit embarassed to dress them the same... (i've only done it the once for a special occasion) but everyone commented on how adorable they looked ! and they did

I dress my boys the same only because they are so close in age, if they were further apart i might not, if i dont dress them the same i normally try to dress them similar i.e wearing very similar colors.

I personally don't (dress my boys the same), my mother dressed my sister and I the same and I absolutely hated it (didn't want her looking like me!-she is 4yrs younger).
The main reason I don't dress my boys the same is that I like them to have their own "individual" look, they are different builds, but their is nothing wrong with it, in the right outfit they can look absolutely gorgeous - go with your instinct's Mamaduke! :)
