Hi all,

Our 7 month old little man has forgotten how to sleep ... he wakes on average every hour or two (sometimes more, sometimes less) and has started having only 2 x 15min naps during the day.

We're on a sleep school waiting list, but it will be a 3 or 4 week wait! I am at the end of my tether! :gloomy: Silly me - waiting this long to contact them!

Has anyone been through anything similar? How do you get through the wait? :banghead:

Thanks!

Oh Claire i am so sorry to hear this... poor you :hugs:

I havnt been where you are so no advise sorry but it is crazy that its so hard to get into these sort of places when you really need them...

I just had to book Samuel into an ear specialist because his ears are completely blocked with wax.. he cant hear properly, cant speak properly and is behaving really badly because of it... we couldnt get in for 4 week !!! :banghead:

Hang in there matey, this wont be the case forever... before you know it you'll be trying to drag him out of bed to get him to school on time !

Hi Mrs Little - I'm in Melbourne.

Princess Niamh - I haven't called Tresillian because I noticed they're only in NSW, but come to think of it, its probably worth a phone call, even though they're in a different state. I've tried the 'Pantley' method (no cry), but it gave DS a cot phobia because he knew he wasn't going to be settled in my arms! I'm not too good on the 'controlled crying' thing - I get teary reading the steps on how to do it! What a sook! But if worst came to worst ...

At the moment, I'm using music, patting, words and feeding him to sleep if I'm really desperate!

HI
I went to a day stay clinic when Riley was younger, had to wait ages too.It was so horrible waiting!!but I went to clinic and it was a diaster!!He slept for 10 mins the whole day!!When we got back home he settled down a bit and started sleeping more.I cant do CC either.I prefer to co-sleep and breastfeed him to sleep.Takes stress off us.
I hope you get it all sorted!

Hi,

i dont know what clinic you are booked into, but if you havent seen it, have a look at www.itstimetosleep.com (i used the dvd-didnt actually go to the clinic), but she has a sleep centre if needed, and the dvd came in about 1-2 days....thank god.

Good luck

Bella - my trick was to burst into tears on the phone and they pushed me up the queue! Well, I didn't mean to, it's just that was the emotional state I was in. I had to wait 10 days and I just counted down the sleeps to help me get through. It was hard, but then I found myself really emotional the day I was admitted too... it all feels like a foggy dream now.

If it helps, the school really helped me. And by the way the wait list for public is 3 months! Can you imagine? You would go insane!

Good luck :fingerscrossed:

I hear you Bella and I have been there!
You poor darling!!

Now I know what works for one mummy isn't going to work for us all but you could try Tizzi Hall. You can download everything you need from her website saveoursleep.com and her ideas compliment the sleep school theory (except for the controlled crying bit) it worked for us anyway and after what felt like many moons, our 9 month old closes his eyes and goes straight to sleep when I put him in his bed and has since we got him onto her routines. The most important thing is don't give yourself a hard time over it. If something works for you do it and get your friends and family to come over and rock your little one or take them for a walk while you rest, good luck:hugs: from Bella

Im going through it also - EJ doesnt like to sleep much during the day though actually recently its got a little better with a couple of longer naps.

Nights its waking about every 1-2 hours also shes been like this since about 4.5 months - The only way i can currently get a reasonable sleep is to have her in bed with me where she will sleep longer ontop of me . In her cot she just doesnt sleep real well:(

Have you tried contacting Sunshine Hospital, i am booked to go in there and the waiting list was 2 weeks.

If you or anyone else reading this wants the number PM me and i will give it to you. I am going to be doing an overnight stay i am desperate, i go back to work next month and one of my twins wakes up at least 2 times a night.

My Health Nurse reccomended them and they are quicker to get into.

I know what you are going through its tough.

Hugs from me:hugs:

Hi Bella,
You poor luv, hang in there! I have been there too and I know, you are just driven to despair.

I went to O'Connell Family Centre in Canterbury, Melbourne. I had to wait 2 weeks or so for a nurse to ring me but when she did luckily she caught me on a really bad day and I just unloaded - I managed to get in on a cancellation.

I was at the point where I could not read one more book, hear one more piece of advice etc etc. - I just needed some intervention so to speak!!! Someone else there to share my despair!!

I found O'Connells fantastic as a nurse was with you all the time and you had meals cooked for you etc, it was just a great relief to get there.
If you need to, feel free to PM me, I hope you get through this but if you can hang in there, I think sleep school is worth it (well the place I went to was anyway).
Take care

Forgot to mention O'Connells is public, so no fees. One of three in Melbourne - the other two are Queen Elizabeth in Noble Park and Tweddle in Footscray

Hi cilli, I noticed you posted this quite some time ago! But I wanted to hear about your experience with o'connells? I am on the waiting list as my 7 month old is waking every 2-3 hours at night. Can you have visitors? What methods do they use? (eg. controlled crying) if you could let me know it would be really appreciated!! Thanks :)
