Hi,
At Christmas we are moving :yelclap: i cant wait to soak up some sunshine, lol. Trouble is, we can move anywhere we want and QLD is a big place! We just dont know where to go. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a general idea of what we are looking for:

- Hoping to find a nice Coastal Country town, population no bigger than about 20,000
- Reasonably close proximity to obtestric services and Private hospitals (say within 150km)
- We used to live in Broome WA so we arent afraid of living up the top end either.

TIA!!:)

coastal country town... first thing that sprang to mind was Toogoom, Hervey Bay. beautiful area. only 25 mins to maryborough where all the big kmart and big w is. although hervey bay itself has a target (maybe more, been about 3 years since i was there)

not great for surfing as most beaches are protected by the top end of fraser island, but good fishing and a very relaxed environment.

although im under the impression its a very low economic area... so everything is cheap... but so are your wages.

apart from that... my sister and friends all rave about cairns

Hervey Bay has everything now...Big W, Target, K Mart lots and lots, also has a big airport, beach and heaps of stuff to do. I was there on the weekend. Is a lovely place, but the town planning is not really good, the shops are all over the place, weird. The proces are fair for houses/rent etc and there are so many places to eat!

Coolum would be my pick but then again I would never live in the top end - too damned humid for me. And I'd want to be close to services and facilities, so I don't like being too far from a biggish city. Coolum is 2hours from Brisbane.

Any chance of taking a road trip before hand? It IS such a huge state, and lots of different towns etc all the way up. We're in Cairns and love it! Visited Hervey Bay and weren't too impressed, but our friends who just moved there love it.

I guess you just have to see where you like. It's so diverse, from the weather to the housing/work. And Christmas is a tough time - hot and wet in the top, hot and humid all the rest of the way down.
