View Full Version : Strawberries & excema...
I seem to think strawberries are the one of the causes of dear Ellie's excema outbreaks & 'something else'... knowing that she has a reaction to s-berries any suggestions what the other cause could be? Oranges?
Your ideas?

Hi Tingles
Being an ecezma sufferer myself I can only offer what I've found to be big no-no's. Oranges was my main one as a child, particularly in the form of orange juice. Have found in adulthood that any tropical fruit in excess causes a pin like rash, and an extremely itchy mouth. (its realllly annoying, I LOVE fruit!)
Apparently anything that 'heats the blood' can cause a reaction also.
I was also allergic to wearing wool. Might be another thing to watch out for?
I am allergic to strawberries and also have reactions to capsicums and tomatoes if this helps.

DD#2 reacts to strawberries - itchy eczema on her torso, and in the joint folds.
Keeping her off them improves the situation markedly, but to keep her pretty much clear of it, we went onto organic food, and have not looked back. It cleared my dermatitis PDQ too.

Strawberries
Tomatoes
Oranges
Citrus fruits
chocolate
DAIRY is a big offender
I would suggest getting your dd allergy tested and maybe going on the elimination diet to sought out her skin allergy.
Also as usual I would suggest seeing a good natropath to help as well, love the natural remedies:)
Good luck:fingerscrossed:

I did ask the doc about having her allergy tested... he said no point, too young, she'll grow out of it !
:fingerscrossed: that she does grow out of it!

My little man had really bed excema till he was about 13 months old, and only occasional excema since then, now has pretty much out grown it.
But he was also allergic to eggs, strawberries or any berries, and stone fruits too, would cause him to have a red rash and welt like bumps around his mouth, and at the other end too, it went straight through him.
He is now 2 and a half and can happily eat all of them without them causing him any problem, so lets hope your little one grows out of it too!

my son was allergy tested at 7mths and then put on the elimination diet which was great as I could prevent him from having the things known to cause a reaction..........so definately NOT pointless!
Yes he out grew his egg allergy BUT i would never have known that if I hadnt of retested him about 10 mths later.
I would get a second opinon, coz once you know what your child is allergic too you can then prevent further irritation!
Good luck
My dd i think is dairy intolerant, im sure there is something else as well. I have seen two Drs, and a skin specailst, all saying no point, because dairy free food makes a difference, therefore if i had a test i would only be eliminating dairy food to help the problem. Im not 100% conviced about that, id like some piece of mind.
Im in Brissy can anyone suggest where i can get her allergy tested, costs and if there is a medicare rebate. I have been told it will cost me $300. But since its not life threatening and going well on dairy free i might wait it out.:(

HOW OLD IS SHE?? I took my son to a "quack" in a medical centre and when he asked what he could do for me i came straight out and said "I need a referral for an allergist for a skin allergy test".
found my suspicions proved right ... and he was 11months!!!
Adria try eliminating Egg from her for one week ..... SUPPOSABLY the next closest to a dairy allergy is a allergy to EITHER egg white or yolk (can't remember which) AS well it might be lactose intolerance rather than a dairy allergy .... they are both bad but a lactose intolerance just eliminates the Lactose from diet (lactose free milk, yoghurt etc) rather than NO Dairy .....
i have tried no egg. I do think its an intolance, as a little bit of dairy seems to be okay.
Im more concerned about the rash she gets on her arms and thighs. The only way to describe it is like tiny clogged pimples and rough to feel, sometimes it gets itchy. I think it is diet related but just can't pin point it.
She is just over two and thats what i wonder, if it is lactose intolrance or the protein in milk, or maybe even an additive or preservite.

my little one has a n allergy to the protein found in milk.
Its caused by a build up, so if he has a glass of milk today he will b okay but if he were to drink a glass of milk every day for a week then he would get very sick.
I would recommend testing its really the quickest way to find the answers your searching for:fingerscrossed:
