I know you do butter and milk.

But I like to do other combos.

Tonight I put sour cream and sweet chilli sauce in it.

Other nights I do cheese, garlic, herbs, sometimes onion and mushroom.

So I am wondering what other people use for a change.

my aunty used to put pumpkin or sweet potato in the mash so her kids would eat more vegies. She told them the reason the mash "potato" was a yellow-orange colour was just the cheese she added. and they ate it all up!

If i did the cooking i could tell you but i dont. I do know that DF as a thing with adding stinky cheese & garlic.

Tee hee... there was a thread in teh recipe section on this:http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=273209

I don't bother peeling, so mine are a little more "rustic", and I usually grate in some nutmeg, then milk and butter.

I use those yummy herb cream cheeses. I buy them when they are close to their use by date and freeze them in portions, then add them to my mash.

My mash is also a multi-veg mash (don't tell my DH). It had normal potato, sweet potato(i also say it is yellow from the cheese....lol) and cauliflower.

Sometimes if i want something different, i will add crushed pineapple, diced bacon and sour cream.

DS's mash i make with flavored oils. He like artichoke and basil oil the best at the moment.:)

I sometimes cook my potato in chicken stock, and then add just butter.

It is delish!!!

Otherwise I add sour cream/cream/cottage cheese depending how excited I'm getting.

I usually use butter, cream and salt. Not overly healthy but very yummy. Sometimes I'll finely chop some raw onion for DH and I.

When I make mine like this, I usually just do normal mash, substitute the butter for garlic butter and add bacon, onion and cheese to taste.

The only thing is that im really heavy handed when it comes to the butter.... so i think the garlic butter would be too overpowering..... what if i did a half/ half thing

I use garlic powder.

I put enough in just to taste, still want to be able to taste the mash.

Before we had kids I'd put a little dijon mustard in it...dont need to add too much just tastes really different. Had it at a restaurant once and thought I would try it at home.

Before I got married mum used to do a great mash with potatoes....brocolli and carrot!

Most of the time now I just do the unsalted butter, milk, pepper and normal pototoes but sometimes I like to use sweet potatoes to be a bit different. DH says they cook faster too! have a rougher texture. Adds nice orange colour to dinner plate I like it with fish meals. I only sprinkle salt on mine at the table. Used to add sprinkle of jar of chives if i had the fresh stuff home grown would add that yum :)

Last time i had mash at a pub however it was dripping with butter! not healthy but tasted really yum
