View Full Version : Pulling off the breast
Hello
Just wondering if this is normal? My six week old baby constantly pulls off the breast then wants to get straight back on. I thought perhaps it was because the milk is coming out to fast but he does it at every feed.
I've read that breaking suction also causes them to get wind, so would like to rectify the problem.
I would appreciate any advice.

Hello
My baby does exactly the same thing.
At my breast feeding class today we were told that in the early weeks babies can break off feeding 10 or more times.
Also we were told to occasionally break the suction (with little finger in the corner of the mouth) and burp the baby (every 10mins or so). To prevent wind.
Not sure if that helps !

Totally normal!!! My nearly 5 month ol still does it and heaps cause he is a nosey parker! For me it is the fast flow he needs to pull off to catch his breath! but then he gets BM squirts up his nose, in his eyes and across the room!

My 6 month old still does this as well. He's a nosey parker and does it to have a look around at the world and because at time my flow is so fast he needs a breath.... and much like the PP milk ends up everywhere possible!
At sleep school they told me thats how they stimulate milk production. If hes had a good feed from that side, he might need to be switched to the other.
