If you usually get the family tax supplements paid with yr tax, it is being paid via family assistance this year, once you lodge then we get paid thru centrelink. HTH

You're welcome Kiwi. I hate it when I think I am getting money and then it doesn't come, I lodged on the 1/7 and my family tax supplement was paid 10 days later.

My dp is yet to receive his tax, he doesn't get ftb supps, I have already gotten mine though. He done it through e-tax 2 weeks ago.. what could be taking it so long? Considering we don;t know if he will have a job soon we really need it :hair:
Also sometimes if you have hecs debts and you reach a certian threshold they will take it out of that.

Usually we both get a lot back at tax time.... but this year we both have to pay! No idea what is going on there.... but that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess!

The last 2 years I have had to pay. I salary package and have a HECS debt so it doesn't really work out in my favour (other than forcing me to pay off the HECS quicker)..I so look fwd to the day when I don't have a HECS debt.
I find the whole system frustrating TBH. DH and I are both middle-income earners, but because the salary packaging bumps up my 'income'- ie- Fringe benefits, to Centrelink we can't claim a single thing. It is still worth salary packaging at the end of the day because it saves me more than I would get from Centrelink, but it's frustrating that we can't claim any 'Family tax benefit' when we both work, pay taxes and have a family.
We also can't claim the education expenses rebate because you have to get FTB A to claim it.... :hair: shouldn't this be available to everyone with children at school as we all have education costs?
Just my rant for the afternoon. :hissy:

It's available to those under a certain income.. face it there has to be a line drawn somewhere and I guess they figure if you are earning over that limit then you have enough to not need the FTB.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the threshold for hecs debt payments being taken out of your tax is? Dp has one but till now hasn't been earning enough to have it taken out of his tax, he earns around 40k a year now.. will it get taken out of his tax this year?

*Amethyst* I coudn't find the current rates, but the '07 rate was $39K-ish and it does go up every year (just like everything else ).
He may be best considering taking a weekly amount out to lower the end of year figure?
I can't remember the time that we got a big tax refund.... we have had to pay the last few years because of job changes and bonuses etc. but as long as we don't have to keep paying I will be happy!

Same here.... DH hardly gets anything back. Usually $100-$150 because his company take the right amount of tax out of his pay. But this year we got quite a lot more as DH had heaps of medical expenses that we could claim. We were thinking of getting his company to take more tax so he got more back next year.

DH is in the ADF and they are pretty accurate at the whole tax thing so we have an extra 20% taken out each fortnight so that we get some compulsary savings at tax time! We also wat till tax time to get our $$$ from centrelink cause it is really hard to guess what DH's income will be from year to year esp when you add allowances etc!

Welp we found out we won't be getting anything back thanks to hecs debts, and a stuff up from centrelink a couple of years back. Goddamnit centrelink!
(((hugs))) Amethyst, I know you were kind of counting on a return as your back up.

Thanks :) sigh... we will find a way.. we always do
we dont claim the tax free threshold, so DF starts paying tax from the 1st dollar he earns, so he over pays tax, so he can get a decent refund.. which all goes on shire/water rates and bills.
