Please don’t reply that my bubba isn’t constipated!

She is…she is pooing tiny little balls…sometimes just one…she is straining!

So…any tips on formula that doesn’t have a constipation reputation? I am currently using Heinz nurture – which I used with DS with no issues.

I know each bub is different…. but any recommendations?

Thanks!

My DD was the exact same! We were using S26 (the normal one not the gold) and changed to NAN HA Gold and haven't had a hard poo since.

HTH

ETA- The pead told us to give DD some cool boiled water between feed's however this didnt work for us as DD would not drink it. Might be worth a shot tho?

I'm not an expert but have been told that the 'Gold" formulas are more likely to constipate. Saying that I am using Nan HA Gold 1 (from birth)

My girl got constipated to at the start as her little tummy adjusted to it but I so so regular now. I know what youmean though. She had little pallets. I just gave her 10 - 30mls of boiled water after her feeds for awhile (even if she only drank a tiny bit it was better then nothing. She loosened up in the end and as I said doesn't need to strain anymore. One push and the nappy is full, haha.

I also give her 'Infants friend' from the chemist after each feed. Have no idea if it helps but she is the happiest healthy bub ever. Infants friend is natural and helps with a whole lot of things. - relieves colic and wind in the bowels - will help to allay restlessness and irratation caused by inflamed gums during teething - help to keep bowels regular - will produse natural, quiet sleep, by relieving the child from colic - oh and will be found pleasant to the taste. So the bottle says.

Goodluck. I hear diluted pear or prune juice work but I would only use that as a last resorts as bubs doesn't need all that sugar.

I've heard too that the gold formulas are constipating. You could dry some coloxyl drops to help soften the poo a bit

i had this prob with ds and the CHN said first try 10-20mL extra in his bottle (he was having 200mL feeds, so you might want less for smaller feeds)
THEN try 1/2 strength pear juice
THEN try 1/4 strength prune juice
THEN try coloxyl drops,

and as a last resort you have to go to the Dr for a suppository.

I found the pear juice was good for getting it going again, then I was able to maintain it with the extra water in the bottles.

Hope this helps, and your bubba gets some relief soon!

oh there is a chart around that compares formulas, and the heinz nurture is quite similar to S26, which is quite notorius for constipation, so if it persists you may want to try something different

My DS was like this, that was IF he even managed to squeeze one of those out the poor darling.

I have been using coloxyl but I might switch and use infants friend, it sounds wonderful.

We are lucky we have all these choices, mum said my pead put soap just inside mu bottom to get me to poop when I was a bub.

Ohh your poor lil bubba ... you feel sobad when you can see how much they are straining!

I use Karicare Original - tried Karicare Gold and s26, lactose free and had probs with spew, constipation etc.

Tips i have been given to help constipation:
- leg exercises to encourage the bowel (basically slowly pushing legs up)
- cooled boiled water
- cooled boiled water with teaspoon of sugar
- teaspoon of sugar with formula
- 10ml more water then required when making up formula

as i said we tried about 4 diff formulas before we found one to suit :) every bub is diff.

goodluck!

I had the same problem with dd. What i got told is to try and give dd 60mls to 100mls of water a day and it will help.
I would have said to try her on some pear juice but she is way to young for that.
I say try her water cause she 3 months old and you should be starting to introduce water to her now.. give her a week and you'll notice the difference in the poo's
hope that helps.. i wouldnt go changing her milk just yet.
