View Full Version : *Spin Off Thread* What is your definition of Racism?
It seems that the waters are muddy for some people when it comes to the definition of racism.
So, in your own words, how do you describe racism?

To believe that you are superior than others based on race and to treat them as such.

Racism can be shown in many ways. I am not guiltless, however upon reflection of some past attitudes and behaviours, I try very hard not to be racist or to refelct on why I may hold that view or stereotype.
Most people are racist in some way shape or form, and to them it can be invisible and they don't even know they are doing it. Just because they mean no harm, doesn't mean no harm is done.
Sorry waffled.
It is othering and generalising people. "Indian people smell like curry" "A Muslim man bumped into me today" etc.

The belief in "race" at all, though I admit this is a fairly pedantic perspective.
To believe that there are characteristics intrinsic to "racial" groups.
The structure of society that privileges certain "racial" groups over others. The universalising of one "racial" groups experiences to all groups.
The idea that Australia was, is or should be "white".

From my perspective racism is when someone does not accept the fact that everyone was created equal by God, that person does not tolerate the fact that they share the same air or that they get the same rights.Thinking that superiority is based on color or nationality and that the there should not exist any other race in the world but their own.
