Hello all,
Well lately my little man has not been wanting his milk feeds, the amount he drinks is dropping everyday. Today for instance he only had 1 feed at 5am, 1 small feed at 8.30am and 1 small feed at 8.00pm tonight before bed. I am worried that this is not normal because my little man is only 6 months old??
I am trying other ways to get him to feed better such as going in a quiet dark room, because i thought it might have just been him getting to sidetracked in everything else? but thats not the case. It's frustrating because he just wont feed?:banghead:
Is this normal? has anyone else had this trouble? Or can anyone give me any advice?:(

He could be going on a nursing strike. if so, it's very important to keep offering the breast, but don't freak out if he doesn't take it!

That doesn't sound like enough feeds for a 6mth old to me. If he's still alert and happy, and his normal self, then it's probably nothing to worry about.
Is he having solids? Maybe he's filling up on them. He could just not be feeling well too, there are a few bugs going around. Does he drink any other drinks thru the day?
If he's not feeding better after a few days a trip to the dr might be worthwhile, just to make sure...could be he's just not hungry today, or he may have an ear infection, a cold, anything is possible.
oops, forgot to mention both my bubs have been formula fed, so these are the reasons I think of when they go off their bottles.

He's still very alert and very happy. He's been on solids since 4mnths because the milk wasnt doing enough. but i've been told that i am to bf before any meal he has, and that was all going well, he would even have a milk feed after his meals aswell. but now he wont do either, but he's still happy to eat his solids:no: He doesn't appear to be unwell, and he has no other drinks as yet i havent introduced anything to him yet. it's all very worrying for me, he's been doing this for the last week but as i said the feeds are dropping everyday. i am worried he is self weaning and if thats the case i feel that it is WAY to soon!:crying:
oh i forgot to mention that he is teething..could that have anything to do with it?

Hi,
How many times did you offer the breast with in this time?
Its not unusual to cut the ammount of feeds or the duration, if he is teething (some increase feeds other decrease due to pain).

My bub went on a bit of a boobie strike just before my period came back. The good news though is that is was temporary. The strike, not the periods.:(
Calling the ABA might help to ease your mind too. They have been wonderful whenever I have called them. I used them and their advice when my DD was 11 months so there is no baby age restrictions.

I was told that the hormones (pregnancy or returning periods) can change the taste/composition of your milk so if you are pregnant (YAY for you!) this could be the reason. As others have said, just keep offering the boob and if you feel like your boobs are in any way getting sore, express some milk off so as to A) keep up your supply and B) prevent mastitis.
I don't know if you mentioned whether he is on solids? Do you offer the boobie before solid food if he is?
