My baby is to go in for a sleep study soon. She has suspected sleep apnea caused by enlarged adenoids. I am worried about her being so young and needing an operation. Has anyone heard of this problem before or had any experience of it?

Hi i have heard of sleep apnea. My dd was never diagnosed but was suspected of having this as her tonsils and adnoids were really big. She ended up having them both out due recurrent tonsilitis anf the fact they pretty much blocked her airways. :fingerscrossed: for your little one i know it is scary when they have to have an operation but just think how much better your baby will be/feel after it, without the sleep apnea and enlarged adenoids getting in the way.
I was actually diagnosed with this as a toddler - my mum said I snored really really loudly and then sometimes looked like I wasn't breathing properly. In the end the doctors took out my tonsils and adenoids (apparently they were enlarged) and my mum said it helped me because I was able to sleep better and no longer snored.
I don't know how old your baby is but I was about 2-3 years old and just remember jelly and icecream and being in hospital. And this was about *cough* more than 25 years ago so I'm sure the doctors are very experienced now.
All the best to you and your little one :hugs:

nope havent suffered from sleep apnea but i had my adnoids taken out when i was 11. :)
Both of my kids have enlarged adenoids and my ds has sleep apnoea with it. Both of my kids snore terribly, but ds wakes and is often found wandering in his room and also has yet to have anything other than "runny poo" which means that toilet training is not happening! The poo issue is aparently another symptom of sleep apnoea in children.
I have to get him to the doc and be referred to the ENT specialist as he also needs his tongue-tie cut due to limited tongue function for chewing ... poor kid ... reflux, cranial problems, glue ear, enlarged adenoids, sleep apnoea, squint (which turned out to be his misshapen head, not his eyes!) and tongue-tie ... and yet, I still see him as perfect:D
