Hi Ladies,
I am seriously considering having an elective c-section ....
My question is how soon after getting home from hospy were you able to get out of the house and go for a walk?
Is there a general time frame they give you for exercising? I know it obviously depends on how you personally feel, but I am very interested in everyone's experiences on how soon you were able to go for walks with the pram.

I walked from about 3 weeks, I was too sore before that. I think my ob told me no strenous exercise for 8 weeks. It's really different for every woman though. Some are up and exercising fairly quickly, others have pain for a while.
I started on the abdominal exercises after a week, took little walks from 2 weeks but wasn't really up to much before 6 weeks. Was kickboxing quite soon after that. I'm OK but I don't think hauling Esme out with forceps from my pelvis did her much good - she was irritable for months.
I walked slowly up the road to vote 5days after my c-sec. I did what I could around the house pretty much straight away (that was excercise enough) for the first couple of weeks, but I was careful. And I waited until I was 3mths PP before going back to the gym for serious workouts. I woud have gone back earlier (I felt up to it) but played it safe, as I didn't want to cause any damage that would set me back further.

With my first c/s I started to exercise full on RUNNING etc at 8wks
With my second C/S I was still VERY sore around the 4mths mark and could only walk very short distances around the 3wk mark.
Like u said it all depends on how u feel.. but the Dr's generally like to say no to do anything until after the 6/8 wk mark :)

hi all
i was walking slowly around the shopping centre and around the neighbourhood at 3 weeks it really depends on the person. i had a perfect text book c section according to my ob so it was fine i felt great getting out of the house in the free air but everyone is different you will know when your ready.

I walked (pushed pram ard the block) the day I got out of hospital- 6 days after my c-sec. I'd hemorrhaged, had another visit to theatre, 2 blood trans and was consequently quite anemic. I was also about to come down with an infection but didn't know it.
I'm not particularly fit or anything just needed to get out of the house and found it tiring but not uncomfortable or anything. I felt 90% of my normal self after 3 weeks- by this point I think my anemia was better.
I think you'll feel better the sooner you start getting out. I ended up back in hospital for 4 nights because of my infect but when I got out I continued walking. The sunlight is also great for bubs and getting her sleep patterns right.
I was lucky though and had Mum staying with me and she did all cleaning etc so I had time and energy. Mum also lifted the pram upstairs etc don't do that for at least 3 weeks!
As said by PP everyone is different, I'd urge you to get out everyday but even if that's just 10 mins of slow walking.

I actually laughed out loud! Im sure I'd be pretty irritable too.
Thanks for the exercise insight, I am in exactly the same situation and didnt post as didnt want a barrage of ppl telling me not to have an elective c-sect. Thanks everyone for the helpful advice.

I was walking 2-3k a week after back to running 2k at 3 weeks and back to the gym doing pump class at 3 weeks, I am sure it varies from woman to woman though...
Hi, I just had my second C/S and was out for coffee the day after leaving hospital and walking gentle strolls 10 days later. I have recovered really well both times, your body will also let you know when you have over done it. Everyone is different, take it easy, it really is up to how you feel. Best advice for me was get out of bed next day and slowly get around, everyday you get better and stronger.
