Hi,
Well, I just wanted to start a little post on the baby calmer as we have recently acquired her services to help with our bub's sleep issues.
I'll give a background - DD has never been a great sleeper from around 2 weeks old. She is now 2 and 2 months and still wakes up to 10 times a night, and takes approx 1-3 hours to put her to bed each night.
We contacted the baby calmer and she called us back for a detailed chat about what is happening with our DD and what her qualifications are - as well as a few other recommendations.
She really knows her stuff! She is very down to earth, extremely helpful and an excellent listener. We talked on the phone for 2 hours!! And this is even before we had met her. It was great to find out her background (with regards to working with children) and reassuring to know she has been doing this for a long time and all of her clients have had success. She will give us skills to use with our children for the rest of their lives!
If you're interested in what kind of skills these are, you can look at "hand in hand parenting" (not sure if i can post a link, but it will come up if you google). I am not sure if the techniques are EXACTLY the same (she has not yet visited), but it will give you a basic idea of what it entails.
We have used the hand in hand technique in the past with success, but have somehow come off the boat again, and need help getting back on track - emotionally.
Although we have done this before without Anne's help, we have asked her to attend our home to be there for us for reassurance that we are doing the right thing, and ensure that there is not something a-miss.
Anne does not recommend or use controlled crying. She has an extensive knowledge of sleep issues in children and has also given advice on supplements we can give DD to ultimately help reduce her cortisol levels to assist her on getting back on track with sleeping.
I will keep posting in here on the days ahead and let people know how we go. So if you're having issues with your bub's sleep and are reluctant to try controlled crying, perhaps the baby calmer can assist!
