Hi there,

This will be my first tax time with my DD. My partner and I receive family tax benefit a and b each fortnight, as this is what we chose to do. Now a friend of mine says that when I lodge my tax return I can also claim a baby bonus or something? Until DD is 5? And she thinks there's something else I can also claim for DD?? Does anyone know about this?

The ongoing baby bonus ($500) is for babies born between 01 and 04, until they are 5....You would have already received the baby bonus ($5k) in installments from centrelink?

You will be eligible for part of the $686 per child (family assistance Part A supplement) and $300ish per family (Family Assistance Part B supplement).....you will only be eligible this year for a couple of months worth (since your DD was born) but next year you will be eligible for the whole lot.

Oh, and, you don't have to claim the family assistance payment, they pay it automatically when they receive you and your partners tax returns or you tell them you don't need to lodge one. If you have had an overpayment, they will take it out of this money.

HTH.
