Microwave..

was reading a magazine, and it suggested putting potatos in microwave for 5-8mins before putting them in the oven....
this might be a silly question but do you put them in a microwave dish with water/covered by water or by themselves??

I just stick mine in by themselves, and just prick them with a fork all over, otherwise the skin wrinkles.

If you want the potatoes unpeeled to roast.. add a couple of inches of hot water to the bowl and cover with cling wrap, then Microwave.
(make sure you drain them well before you throw them into the oven)

I have a microwave steamer type thing, so I add a bit of water in the bottom then zap them for a few minutes to soften them - cuts the cooking time in the oven by half! :thumbsup:

I use a little bit of water, but that's only because most things I make in the microwave explode or burn;)
