We are in a rental and have a new stove with the flued exhaust fan anyway what im asking is how do i clean the exhasut tray the bit that absorbs oil etc. I need to clean it since we're moving out this weekend. I can see that its easy to remove but its like a mesh of wire. do i just soak it in dishwashing liqued and let air dry or any other ideas?, i dont want to damage it.

hehe yep - oven cleaner... spray it on and it will get rid of most of the grime when you rinse it.

If its not too dirty at all you can just try hot water and dish liquid and soak it for a while.

thanks illusional. One side is heaps clean and the other side is oily so i will give that ago. Im think soap water should be enought though - right?

Depends on how greasy it is... if the bottom side is really filth - the oil wont just wash off.
Soak it in really soapy boiling water for a couple of hours and see how you go - if not - a non-fume oven cleaner will do the job.

Well i have now cleaned them and i can tell you it was so easy to come off. The oil which was quite think as soon as i held it under a running hot tap started sliding off. I then soaked the two exhast fan trays in hot soapy water and then dried on paper toweling. wolah perfect and clean:thumbsup:
