View Full Version : Calling Selective Vaxers

This thread is kind of a carry on from the 'calling all non vaxers' thread. As parents we all have the right to choose what we think is best for our child, so with respect, I am not interested in hearing from people who opt into all the vaccinations available for children. This is a supportive thread for selective or non - vaxers.

I would be interested to hear from the 'selective vaccinators'. If so then which ones? I would like to know your thoughts and your personal experiences.

As a mum to be I am researching and finding out as much info as possible. After a chat with a midwife, I have been thinking that oral vitamin K as an anti clotting agent may be the way to go at birth. Also menigacocal (sp) is very fast to set hold in the body and does massive damage. It is also easily contracted.

If you have 'selectively vaccinated'...which ones did you opt for and why?

Bubby isn't born yet but I have chosen not to get him the hep B vax at birth. Whether or not he gets it later is still to be decided, but definitely not at birth.

I am still deciding on the oral Vit K thing. Definitely know that he won't be getting injected with anything at birth.

He won't be getting the chicken pox vax or the rubella vax. I have had both of these minor diseases and if he gets them he will have natural immunity the same as me. I am actually quite scared of the chicken pox vaccine because it is temporary immunity just until he's a bit older and the disease is actually more dangerous then.

Meningicoccal is one I will seriously consider getting for him. He won't be getting any "combined" doses of anything if I can help it. I don't trust that many things going in at once but I need to do more research before making a final decision.

So where I am at: No injections a birth. Oral Vit K, unsure. No chicken pox or rubella or MMR.

Thanks Shed...thought I'd hear from you cause you tweaked my brain on the other thread to start thinking about being selective...

Just so you know:

DPT - Dyptheria, Polio, Typhoid

MMR - Measels, Mumps, Rubella

(and my spelling is really bad)

No jabs at birth, I too dont want to give birth to my child and then give them a sharp jab....Welcome to the world...Ouch!

The Midwife explained to me that the Vitamin K is a little capsule that is placed on the side of the bubs mouth and given that they are so apt at sucking it goes down pretty easily.

And my brain was tweaked by another bubhubber a couple of months ago. So it gets passed along!!

I don't have any objection to most vaccinations as such, its just the age that they get done that makes me uncomfortable I think. I am not sure.

Bubby won't be going to any type of daycare until he is two anyway, so I don't think he needs to be jabbed for anything before then.

Its so hard to know whether or not you are doing the right thing. I am more scared of the reactions to the jabs than of the diseases they are supposed to delay/prevent, so that's my main reasoning.

Pretty sure we don't need a typhoid vax at this point!! Polio could be a consideration when he's a bit older. Rubella is minor so no jab as I said. Mumps...need more research on that one.

Isn't it true that in Japan they do not immunise any babies or children until they are at least 2 years of age because they think it is too dangerous??? I think that says a lot. I have a 5 year old daughter who I did not have immunised the conventional way rather homeopathically and I am so glad I did.

I agree totally. It is so hard to decipher which ones. Especially now that they have increased the number of vaccs and the the combinations they have made. But I do know I am much more concerned about the diseases than the side-effcts of the injection. I know I have shared this in another thread before but my SIL contracted measles at aged 2 and it caused permanent brain damage and severe epilepsy-so severe that a few years ago, she underwent an operation to separate the main nerve connecting her right and left sides of her brain. I do understand that her case was an exceptionally rare one and I am not trying to 'scare' anyone but to watch a grown woman fit up to 12 times a day and to only have the emotional maturity of a teenager is not nice.
The MMR vacc is the one that frightened me the most and I had to think long and hard about it but did decide to have my first two children vaccinated for the above reasons.
I'm still unsure about some of the current ones for our 6 month old.

Eliza had the oral Vit K at birth and I gave her the 2nd dose myself a month later, but no Hep B very intresting on the ward several babies had jaundice Eliza didn't but the women told me it was from the Hep B injection, I am not sure if that's true but very interesting.

I think I would consider the meningicoccal injection but others nope.

Im not vaccinating at all,i researched for a long long time reading all types of information and the ingredients that are actually in these vaccinations.
I chose not to give the vitamin k and i didnt give the Hep b as my baby isnt a drug addict or a prostitute so why on earth would she contract Hep b. I decided not to inject her with anything else either.

But it is each to their own and i do strongly believe though that as parents we have the right to question the vaccinations and research them and we owe it to our bubs who cant have a say on the issue to seek as much info as we can as its their lives in our hands.

I read a book called Vaccination Roulette and it was so informative and it really opened my eyes. Also these websites are excellent.:)

This question is for funkychicken.

Im just curious if the child that contracted the measles had actually been vaccinated against them?

Just so you know:

The DTP is Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (Whooping Cough).

Polio is given separately.

I do know however that in 1994 Japan stoped compulsory vaccinations because of the possible high cost to the gov't from litigation due to vaccination injury.

No, she is now 41 years old. The vaccine was either unavailable back then or still relatively new.

I also opted out of the HepB at birth. Afer discussing with the Paed, he said it was not needed for babies in a low risk environment. We did do vitK, I didn't know it was available orally (and am not so bothered by the jab - having blood taken for a jaundice test was so much more traumatic :o ).

We have done everything else though...I guess I'm still selective :D

Curtis didn't have vitamin K at all, no hep B, and I haven't made a final decision on the rest (but I'm leaning towards no vax at all) If I decide that he will have some or all, it'll be after he's 2 yrs old.
No chicken pox vax either. And no gastro vax.
