View Full Version : Does not like lifts/elevators
Hoping that someone has or had a similar problem and can tell me what is behind it. My daughter who is 18 months does not like lifts. As soon as I press the button to call the lift she starts to scream (note she is not in the lift this is when I press the button outside the lift). When we are riding the lift she screams and as soon as we get out she stops.
I have tried 3 lifts and I think it's the sound but if another person has had a similar experience I would love to know what it is. Her screams are not slight they are arching back full belt screams as if she is in pain.
A part from that everything is fine.
bad dreams associated with a lift maybe? those doors might look like they are going to eat her?

My ds went through this as well at the same age. He is 2 1/2 now and he loves going in lifts now. He loves watching the numbers light up. He just loves it.

My eldest doesn't like lifts, and will prefer to take the stairs if available. She controls her aversion and doesn't complain if the lift is necessary.
Hewr aversion is twofold:
1) The motion makes her feel ill.
2) She has a fear of being underground and lifts make her feel slightly claustrophobic.
I think some people are more sensitive to certain things to others, and would advise you to consider stairs when possible (though I understand it is not always possible).
Good luck. Hopefully when your child is older she can control her reactions more.
Thanks for the responses and I hope that it does pass.
Yes I always take the stairs when possible.
maybe get her to press the button on the lift? get her involved. Also stand near the lift and show her that people come out and they are ok so she would be ok! Never had that experience but I hope that helps
