View Full Version : OPK's - Do they work for everyone?
I have been using OPK's for my last two cycles, but i have yet to get a +ive (darker than control line)!! Does this mean that I am not ovulating? I have tried one cycle testing once a day and one cycle testing twice a day and still nothing!
I went off the pill about 3 and a half months ago and I would have thought I would be ovulating by now?
So, my question is, do OPK's work for everyone?
I would appreciate any ideas... :flowerz: :)

Hi
I used them for 1 month before i got UTD and i never got a "Proper" result (as dark or darker than the control line) but i still did get a line none the less and they were just internet cheepies from ebay too.
I just made sure as soon as a line started appearing, DP and i BD as much as we could around that time (next couple of days) and it worked first time for us.
Hope that helps
Good luck :hugs:

I believe the brands make a difference.
I was told the ebay OPK's are pretty crappy.
I bought Lullaby Conception ones, and they work every month. My SIL used ebay ones and said they didn't work. So when she found out i was using OPK's she told me not to bother. But i told her they were working just fine and that they weren't ebay ones and now she uses Lullaby Conception OPK's and they work prefectly! A lot of mum's on here also say the same thing about ebay and Lullaby ones.
I have heard of people using the OPK's twice a day, but it's only really necessary to test once a day, AT THE SAME TIME each day. The reason is because the test line shows you will ovulate 24-36hrs after the +. So any tests done after your first + will only continue to be + for the next 24-36 hrs. So no point doing it twice a day.
Have you followed the instructions on the pack?

I've been having problems with OPK's as well so was googling as much as I can to find out more last night - seems they may not work for some people and sometimes the LH surge may only last 10h so you might miss it. Have your cycles been regular and have you had other signs that ovulation might be occurring?

Ahhh..that would make sense for why you would test twice a day. Do some people really only have a surge 10hrs before ovulation?
To the OP, do you have tests that come back with no line at all? If you do, then maybe the reason why it's only ever faint line when 'O', because you haven't waited long enough for the LH surge to collect in the urine? So maybe you will only ever get a light line?
Dunno.... but..i've learnt something new today. LOL.

I have been using the opks from Lullaby Conceptions. Definitely following the instructions  testing at the same time every day (about 4:30pm when i get home from work). I definitely get a strong line, just not as dark/darker than control line. hmmm.... might give them a miss next cycle and just bd every day/every 2nd day. Just would be nice to know that im actually ovulating!!

I just came on to bubhub to start a thread about OPK.. and then I saw this thread so thought I should ask in here!!
I have been using OPK for the last 3 cycles this being my 3rd!! I have not had a problem with them, they have always given me a + on CD12 or CD13, and before the + I always found that the line would become darker each day untill I got my +..... but this cycle I started testing on cd10 and am now on cd12 and they are still very, very light!! Im afraid that I might not O this month.... unless I O'ed really early, b4 i started testing, but I doubt it!!
So now it makes me wonder about how well they work as well!!!

OPK's from Lullaby Conceptions have always been reliable for me.
If you do 'o' later or earlier doesn't mean they are unreliable, quite the opposite. Especially if they have worked for you in the past.
I was starting to notice/understand CM characterstics to go with the 'o' cycle after doing 3 months of OPK tests. One month i noticed the CM was very clear and watery but it was 3 days earlier than when i regularly 'o'. Just out of interest i did a OPK on that day and it came up +. So that month i 'O'ed 3 days earlier, and the CM and OPK clarified it for me. Lucky i was keeping an eye on my CM.
Maybe you will 'o' later? I'd keep doing the testing until you get that dark line. I'm normally a text book case with my cycle- 28 days to the 'T'. But i know that during the lifetime of my AF, it has been known on odd occasions to come a few days later or a few days earlier. So i guess the month i 'o'ed earlier was one of those months, as AF turnned up earlier after an early 'o'.
Hehehe..hope that wasn't too painful for you to read and understand.
