My 13 month old has ALWAYS resisted sleep but it is getting worse. Now he WON'T sleep. He IS tired, so that is not the problem, but he will spend 2 1/2 hours alternating between playing in his cot, giggling, jumping up and down, throwing his dummy out of the cot to crying and screaming.

Till now I have been going into his room, replacing his dummy and laying him back down in the cot and walking straight out. After 2 1/2 hours yesterday I picked him up, as he just wasn't going to go to sleep (and he was hungry by that stage).

In addition, he wakes up anywhere between 3.30 and 5.30am and decides it is time to get up. (He goes to bed between 6.30 and 7pm.) On the odd occasion I hold him he may go back to sleep for an hour or so.

My plan today is to leave him in his cot until he goes to sleep ... but I'm sure that is not going to work (he is going to get hungry, if nothing else). so why do it? Cos I just don't know what else to do!!!!

Has anyone else had any experience like this and can give me any advice. I'm exhausted!!!!

Hi,

Im in the same situation as you i think.

My DS is now 23 months and he wakes up everynight between 12-2am and is WIDE awake and will only sleep if he is in my bed which i allowed him as i was pregnant and then had my DS.

This has been going on since he was 16 months old. As of a week and a half ago i stopped him coming into my bed and when he wakes i walk him back to his room and tell him its bedtime.

Till now he still wakes up EVERYNIGHT and its driving me nuts as im so tired, exhausted and at wit ends on what more to do.

So i hope somebody can help us.

Thanks

Hi, mumkc I noticed you're in adelaide. We went to a sleep doctor Brian Symon (kensington) and he's just been brilliant. Make an appointment asap because he gets booked very quickly, even go on the cancellation list.

Check out his website if you want: http://www.silentnights.org/

good luck!

Hi Lupa

Yes I have heard of Brian - in fact my sister went to him with her first daughter. My only issue is that I am trying to avoid controlled crying and I know that that is what he "teaches". If it goes on for too long though I will have to think about it - maybe I'll book an appointment and make a decision on the day.

Thanks for your suggestions girls.
