I am looking for any advice please? My 8 month old has just started rolling over in her cot in the past week, and will commando crawl back and forward then cry as she loses her dummy between the railing! in the past she was able to self-settle herself to sleep, but we have been rocking her to sleep for the past week so she is asleep before we put her in the cot.

Any advice or recommendations? Thanks

I think its just something they need to learn not to do  My son was the same and I thought about and then tried to start wrapping again but that didnt work. You probably wouldnt use CC, but thats what I did most of the time. Im sure most babies go through this when they start to crawl  I think its a stage to where they have to learn to lay still and self settle.

Yep - you'll have to let her work it out for herself.

My DD used to bang her head on the cot and wake up and cry. She's been doing perimiter laps around her cot since she was six months old. Initially we had a thin bumper, and then after a bit we took that off. She started commando-crawling around at 4.5 months and we couldn't stop her moving in her bassinette, or her cot, so we just let her get used to it and do her own thing. We used to find her in the weirdest positions!

We couldn't go in there each time she banged her head - and after a few times she would just go `bang' and then giggle and go back to sleep. Dag.

But maybe buy a thin bumper - you can get collapsible, breathable ones that are very safe and can't be used to aid climbing out of the cot - and her dummy will be much easier for her to find that way. And I'd put four or five dummies in with her so she'll usually reach one quite quickly.

Ah, it's fun isn't it?

I agree that it's something they sort out for themselves after a little while. My DD2 has taken to doing this lately too, even though she's been able to roll in all directions for many months, somehow when she's half asleep or tired she thinks she can't do it. At this stage I still go in and turn her over and replace the dummy if she wants it. Usually it only takes one or two "flips" and she'll settle.

Both my older kids did exactly the same thing though, and they do learn to deal with it.

Mine too.. I have one that loves to stand and giggle over the side rails, and one that loves to lay on his back and kick the sides of his cot and giggle. You just have to persist that it's sleep time- and once they are tired and ready for sleep they will let you know :)
