Just wondering how many of you out there have to have an anti D shot? I know i had to have a couple of them with my first pregnancy for having negative blood. Now i have to have another one at 28 weeks. Thing i was wondering though was where do u have ur shots? because the midwife insists on always putting the needle in my bum (tmi-sorry) because she thinks its less painful.

I did and i had to work myself up to it as i hate needles. when i went there i had focused on the spot in my arm where it would go and i was ready. when i got to my appointment the nurse said (pull your pants down ) i couldnt believe it:eek:

I had one after delivering DS in the bum :D It didn't hurt, and I'm needle-phobic.
Yep I've had too Anti-D shots... one at 28 wks and then again at 34wks....
The first one was in my bum, and to be honest I didn't feel it at all.... whereas the second was given in my arm and killed in comparison..... and I'm not phased by needles at all....
I have had them both in the bum and arm - dont care were they were I hate them - needles make me feel :barf:

My Dr gave me the option of bum or arm - I chose the arm as I figured he'd see 'enough of me' in labour LOL!!!.
I didn't find it painful at all - you can feel the anti-D moving thru your arm, but not enough for me to hate it.

 well i wish i had a choice! it didnt hurt that much, just made me feel uncomfortable but i guess thats all apart of having a baby!
I've had one done and I was all ready to have it in my arm (not concerned as don't really care bout needles) and my doc said to hope up on the bed and pull the back of my pants down a bit! I was just like what! Apparently they need to use a bigger needle for this so they put it in your bum where there isn't as much muscle (to put it nicely!) so it doesn't hurt.
When I got home I said to hubby "my bum hurts - I had to have a needle in my bum!" and he was just like "what!" and then proceeded to laugh his head off - not impressed!

I have had 3 anti-d injections throughout my pregnancies...the first 2 were in my arm...first one hurt like helll, and the second was fine. The last one (which was only 2 weeks ago) was in my bum, and i didn't hurt either. My midwife said she prefers to do them in the bum as it's a bigger muscle, so it doesn't hurt as much, and she was right!
They do it sort of at the top of your bum iykwim, so it's not like you whole bum is completely exposed lol.

The RBH does not give you the option of having it in your arm unfortunately. I tend to go back to the GP to have the anti D as the shot actually makes my muscle numb they inject into so having a bum cheek that is numb does not make it easy to walk!

Yeah I had 3 Anti-D needles, one at 28weeks, one at 32weeks and one when bub was born. I had the first 2 in my arm, and the last one in my thigh.

I had one after delivery of DD1 she was + I am - didn't feel it I think it was in my bum!
Second DD was -, so didn't need one
Third DD was - so didn't need one again!!
My Dr gave me the choice of having it while pregnant with DD3 (I didn't), but said unless there are antibodies in your bloods then it was unecessary.
OMG! I'm so glad I saw this post, or I would have had a little surprise on Tuesday when I go for my needle!
By that stage I will have given 6 vials of blood for tests in a week though so I'm so over needles.
I have to drive an hour home from the ob's place - anyone else do this? Am I going to be able to sit for that long!?
You should be find, I never even notice afterwoods that I had a needle there:yes: :D

i get them in my arm, i prefer it there:D :D
Got my needle in the butt today and didn't even feel it go in. It was less of a sting than the endless blood tests!

I can't remeber if I had 2 or 3 shots. They were in my bum and boy did they bruise - they were a bit tender too. :(
I have been a little worried about when we try for the 2nd and whether you need the Anti D for every pregnancy. After reading all of your posts it seems like I will probably need one for the 2nd too. Can anyone please let me in on whether you need to have it for every pregnancy.......

Hi livismum,
To my knowledge it is more important with the 2nd (and subsequent) pregnancy/ies, to have the anti-d injections...
I will be having the injections with my next pregnancy regardless of what doctors recommend... I would rather be jabbed a couple of times then have a sick baby...
All the best
i had it in the bum, i was so scared some1 was going to walk in and see me with my butt in the air

Thanks for that jacksmum05. I couldn't remember what the doc had said to me the first time round. I do agree with you about having the Anti d regardless. I might do the same I think..
Cheers.
