Hi all

Just wanting to know if any of you have left a badly broken tooth to just, well, decompose..?

One of my back teeth has been slowly breaking down for the past couple of years and I'm just wondering if leaving it can cause any major health issues? I've had a few abcesses which I've cleared up with antibiotics but other than that it doesn't cause me any discomfort.

I've got a HUGE fear of the dentist, I can't even get in the chair without freaking out and it's something I really can't see myself getting around to doing unless its serious.

?

Danielle - it can cause a myriad of health problems including bad breath, loss of appetite, neck/spinal issue if you chew on one side only and even blood poisoning if left.

It can also trigger headaches, migraines and gastro problems.

Oh... that doesn't sound good does it.
I've actually been getting alot of headaches on the other side of my head than the broken tooth, do you think they could be related?

Bout time cause i have been soo sick, had alot of gastro problems headaches an shocking toothache of course. My advice would be to get the tooth out as soon as you can.

Maybe? Go to a dentist to talk about the tooth and a treatment plan - without actually sitting in the chair - there are many dentists that can 'ease' you into having the tooth fixed - maybe investigate hypnotherapy

Ok thanks for that, I never actually thought of getting eased into it, other times when I've been to the dentist its been wham bam thankyou ma'am, far too in-your-face (literally!) for my liking.

I'll see if I can find a slightly more empathetic dentist than the last one I saw..

OK so since starting this thread I've had the worst toothache and abcess and I'm OVER IT!

So I'm off to get the tooth out in an hour...

Wish me luck that I don't have a meltdown in the chair :hissy:

Thanks ladies :hugs:

All good. Wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it'd be, the dentist was really nice and understood my nerves which really helped.

Was a straightforward extraction too, I thought given the state of the tooth it'd be tricky but we were both pleasantly surprised.

Good luck to you both too!

Glad it went well danielle.

Jag, how did you get on?

I had an abcessed tooth out years ago - the pain before was hell. It was a relief to get it out - back molar, so it was huge. I then had a 'blind' molar (like an extra tooth that was up in my gum) come down after that and I had to have it out last year due to needed a crown. I was dreading it, but being small it was over before I knew it *whew*

I am currently going through the same thing, I am deathly afraid of the dentist, the last time I went I was 12, and they pulled 3 teeth. Was a rather traumatizing experience for me.

I am pretty sure this is an abcess. My GP has given me antibiotics.

Being 35wks pregnant, I am not sure if I should go get it done now, or wait until bubs is born.
